View Full Version : Urgent help needed asap !!!!
Right carrying on from the problems with my brakes. Ive found out its not the brakes at all. the coiovers have been rubbing agasnt my wheel :eek:
Now what can i do to solve this. i havent got any other wheel that can fit over the brakes so thats not a option.I was thinking using spacers. but then i will need to buy longer bolts an i dont like the thought of spacers tbh.

Ive also tried to higher it and lower it but it isnt doign nothing
just enlarger the top shock mounting holesand tweek it out abit.
What make them bigger then move them over?
make the top hole bigger to move the top of the wheel out.

A-Fit spacers
B-Fit shorter springs so the spring platform sits above the tyre

Set of camber bolts might be order of the day. I have a set ready to go on mine.
I really dont know what to do now. my mate works for halfrouds and said he might be able to get me a set of spacers. could i use a small spacer and do what burgo said ?
A spacer big enough to give clearence will be fine on its own.
Could do with going a friendly car place that will let you try a few different sizes...
but enlarging the top hole will correct the camber from lowering it
I would love to but the car cant move a cm let along to a shop lol

Just enlarge the top hole if you need to get the car moving? Camber bolts and/or spacers for a perma fix.
Well ive had a look and i cant find nothing to drill the hole bigger. So while looking i found these. the washers to put on before the cv nut goes on

Ive only found four. but if i put them on with two each side. would this be safe?
same prob with my spax rsx. 3mm spacers, job done but very close so am gonna enlarge top hole too

I had the same problem on my first rally car, I run 6mm spacers. I do have a stud conversion so not got a problem with wheel bolts

File FTW lol. You only need to oval the hole. I myself wouldnt use 4 separate washers. And seeing as you dont have studs will be an **** to fit.
I havent got a file so thats out lol.

i had this problem on my nova and didnt want to run spacers so i sold my coilovers i thought it was just my cheap coilovers but by the looks it aint is there any coilovers that just fit on no trobles
You could buy a set of shorter springs!
Take the dimensions you need to give you enough clearance above the wheel, check the required spring rating you need and also measure the spring inside diameter.
I had to do this with a corsa of mines, just phoned them up and they sorted me out with springs that done the job. ;) www.rallydesign.co.uk (http://www.rallydesign.co.uk)
They do all sorts of different spring sizes and they arent all that expensive. :thumb:
Keeps everything right rather than drilling and widening holes etc.

Are your wheels the correct offset????? i have ran coilovers on all my cars and have never seen that before.
Yea ive had them on many of my other nova's and they have been fine
correct offset wheels there.
they are coilovers so they allready have the elongated upper hole.
which i have adjusted for most positive camber and then set the wheels straight using the adjustable top mounts.
meaning there is no way that fukcing around with the top hole will make any difference...
either change ur wheels, run some spacers (i wouldnt) or next best thing will be to take the top mounts off and remove the helper springs. this will let the spring platform to sit a couple of inches higher.
how the hell have you not noticed that to cause that much damage mate? who the hell fitted the brakes and put the wheel back on and not realise?
Whats wrong with spacers? 3-5mm will be fine.
3mm should be fine, 5mm will be plenty. If you're worried about bolt length, either convert to studs or measure the depth of the mounting hole + spacer then compare that to your bolts.
lol well ive got it movign now. noway long time fix. its good enough to move to the garage.
Well ive cut a brake disk up and thats my spacer lol

just out of interest, what offset are your wheels???
They are 49 but the wheels are fine. ive had them already on these

I used to run 5mm spacers on my old red turbo. Took a brake disc to a machine shop and asked them to copy it then got a longer grub screw. I did it for caliper clearance tho.
I would get shorter springs, they're cheap as anyway!
Yea might be a option to get 300lbs springs then

i had this problem with my fk coilovers but they already had elongated top wholes. this does affect the camber quite badly so your better off getting new springs so you can wind them up higher to clear the wheel
read my post...
top holes allready elongated as there coilovers (most are)
why waste money on stupididly high poundage springs when u dont even need them?
dan are u not going to take my advise or what? take the bloody helper springs out?
and i still wanna know how u managed to do that damage to the wheel/spring seats? almost like a blind person fitted them. such a simple thing to see when u put the wheel back on i cant understand how u could of done it

Is it both sides? seems like you got the wrong suspension or somethings bent i got coilovers on mine and i got 16inch speedlines i got about 10mm gap. i know mines a 2 door but theres no difference only the wings. My money is on wrong suspension.
