this morning i left the car running while i was scraping the ice off the windows. there was loads of smoke from the exhaust (as there is on a cold day), but when i got back from taking the misses to work the drive was in a bit of a mess lol. heres some pix.....

does this mean imminent bus rides? theres some smoke from the exhaust but not much baring in mind its now done 135,000 miles

hmmmm... one of mine did this when i got it... and it had only done 34k and had been well looked after by my great uncle for most of its life.

after a while it stopped doing it, but i suppose yours could be a different problem... dunno.


not much help i know, but htought i would tell you mine recovered of its own accord.

mine done this for a bit and had only done bout 45,000. my mate mechanic reckoned it was just a bit of soot/summin like it from the engine that had sttled where i hadnt used the car for a while. soon cured itself.

so its not terminal then? :D

when the engines running if you put your hand infront of the exhaust you get thousands of little black spots on your hand, can't tell if its oil, or just sooty exhaust shit

apparentl just a bit of moisture in with the soot. rub it over your hand. it smears differently to oil. and when u put a bit of water with it, it all kinda mixes together, something oil wouldnt do. :D so it shouldnt be terminal, or were both pooped.

so is this shit easy to get off drives? cos me mum will kill me when she gets in lol :lol:

it should just wash off the drive mate... throw some water at it... or if you have a pressure washer blast it a bit.

Lol. Mine used to smoke but when i changed the exhaust it stopped. I'm guessing it was just years of soot in the exhaust. Yours might be the same and the cold morning and caused unusually high condensation which had bought out all the crud. Take it round the block till its warm and then see what it does!!!!

mine used to do that, i changed my exhaust also and it stopped. Although now its running proper rich and me plugs end up black and i get petrol coming out the exhaust!!!!

cars throw there teddys in the corner all the time during the winter,
worry about it when it comes to the MOT,
but i reckon its crud in the esystem

mine has been doing this sometimes as well mate. but its not an oily residue so a wasnt 2 worried.

I wouldn't worry about it unless your engine is using alot of oil, often seen this happen if you are parked up against a garage door and the engine is started, or a mark on the front of the car where one in front has started up and left its mark on the spoiler.

all it is, is carbon (soot) in the exhaust from all the backfiring mixed up with a bit of condensattion. Nothing to worry about atall. Just regularly check oil and water like people have said.

Its cool mate. Looks like its a common problem. I get it sometimes (found out by walking round the car whilst it was running with a pair of white versaces on :evil: )

I wasnt too worried, but then I dont seem to worry about much on my car (probably why its such a heap (its either that or coz i bought it off robisgrt :lol: ) !!)

There is a funny smell coming from mine at the moment (and it aint me this time). I think its something that I should worry about, but im getting a new one in April, so Im just raggin the f*ck outta this one, ready to sell it to some bewildered 15 yr old !!!

she drives a delivery van for car spares -

its an ex BT diesel escort van - one of the new shaped ones like

it leaves PITCH BLACK circles on the drive - that always comes off with two good washes - she would be screwin if it daint cos she just had the drive done!

round ere we get this betterware catalogue pushed through door - bit like the old Avon man or similar - have a look in there for drive cleaner if you get REALLY stuck - although focus do it all stock exactly the same shit
