is the gte/gsi rad bigger than the 1.2/3/4 rads as im doing a xe conversion into a 1.2 and i dont know if i can use the original rad??

the reason i ask is because all the radiator company`s ive been to list the same part number/radiator for all 1.2/3/4/6 models???

I think anything from a 1200 up is the same.

nova rads are all the same size, unless its a gte gsi or sri, the cores only go 3/4 of the way down and they sit on stilits.

The models listed above the core goes all the way down to th cross member.

The reason all motorfactors sell one rad for novas is becuase it is cheaper to manufacture one radiator, and obv they pick the bigger one.

The 1200 rad will be fine for an XE.

1.0 radiators are the same size except they obviously have a different pipe layout.

Sorry, quick question without starting a new thread - will a GTE radiator be ok with a 1.2 engine? all pipe outlets etc are in the same place aren't they?

Also The Gte / Gsi Rad Fans Are Bigger !!

SRi/Gte/GSi had bigger rads and fans.
And a different radiator bottom pipe

Leeboo

So a GTE radiator and fan won't fit straight with a 1200 engine? I thought the pipe outlets would be the same

Adam

The bottom outlet is lower down because the rad is larger. So the pipes a different shape.
Might make it fit though..

I run the standard 1.3SR Rad on my XE. Its fine

Oh. Got a leaky radiator on my 1200, might be able to get my hands on a radiator and fan out of a GTE, I will have to check how different it is first. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get the pipe too.

Sorry for going off topic

A few people really trying to confuse the OP by providing false information!

Here is the gospel acording to me:

(ignoring Diesels)
All Petrol Nova rads have the same mounting points for them on to the car.

When it comes to pipe work 1.0 are unique.
They have input and outputs on the drivers side.

1.2-1.6 (OHC) engines are the same layout (input on driverside, output on passenger side.
There are 2 sizes of core, as (some) 1.3s &1.4s and (all) 1.6s are larger, but pipes are in still same place (to within a few inches anyway).

Below is the diag for 1.2s and larger (ignoring size of the core itself, smaller engines have smaller rad area and are on little stilts.)

To answer your acctual query, yes you can use your orginal rad, the smaller rads will just about cope with an XE, but if you can get a larger spec rad then its worth it for the peace of mind that on a hot day sitting in traffic you wont be boiling over.

the gte/gsi rad is about the same size as the astra c20xe one. its just about 5-10cm lower.

why would you take the risk? a new gte/gsi rad is 60 euro's at my local carsupply shop

i have done 3/4 xes with the smaller rad, none of them have ever had any problems.

A 1lt rad will be fine, a friend of mine had one on his track car and it was fine,

Even Vauxhall list the 1.3, 1.4, 1.6 rads as all the same.

Benn you are getting mixed up lol. The 1.0 radiator has the pipe outlets in different places, so he needs a rad from 1.2 upwards.

I did have a 1.0 radiator rigged up to work with a 1300 a while back lol, hoover pipe routed above the exhaust manifold lol

No i'm not. You've not read what i've said.

I said a friend ran a 1lt rad on his xe track car, it was fine cooling wise.

I then said Vauxhall therm selfs list the 1.2 to the 1.6 rads as the same.

loggyboy

The 1.ltr will work from a cooling aspect, its not smaller than the smaller of the 1.2-1.6 versions, however it will require alot more custom pipework to get it plumbed in. I would always recommend the larger rad anyway, so may as well kill 2 birds.

I would imagine Vauxhall ceased production of the smaller rads for 1.2s/1.3s etc to save costs.
