i read on a realy old thread somewhere that the 5th injector that comes with a courtney turbo kit is not necissary with the non cat management as you can somehow 'trick' it into delivering more fuel by connecting up some vaccumes to something?????lol anyone shed any light on this?
im using a red top fuel pump at the mo and an adj fpr at 3bar.
i havent bothered with the double headgasket or spacer plate at present as ive seen this done before with out.

any advice appreciated, ive put a pic on so you can see the job,:thumb:

Wow! That turbo looks monsterous! What is it? You have a homemade manifold?
I'm not too well up on the e16 se turbo conversion, you need to speak to a user called mike.

Mine uses a boost senstivie rising rate reg from America chap. Rig it upto a boost line & for every 1psi positive boost it ups the fuel pressure by 1 psi respectivly. A very effective bodge TBH.

Just out of curiosity, have you had it running with no spacer plate/one head gasket?

I will be yeah, im still yet to buy one though lol but, and as the OP says, Ive seen some conversions done without using them or a double H/G and theyve ran fine?

How did the courtenay conversion adjust the fuelling?

They used some little boost switch thing, trick switch they called it? TBH Im not to sure how it worked, but they used the same thing on 7 SR's waaaay back in the day, all 7 were returned to them FUBAR asking for refunds lol lol

thats gonna eat iyttself on the std ecu. spacer it dood, it needs it.

my friend built on years ago, using a t3 on standard ecu and lump, no spacer plate etc. it ran 14.7 1/4 mile! he did have a few problems once the boost was cranked up higher flat out in 5th but apart from that it was a sound unit and was insainly quick for a 1.6!

i used a 4 branch flange and made the manifold myself

yes ive had it running and its very quick in deed, i cant afford expensive management etc, i do as much as i can myself.

ive currently removed the head though as after a fairly heafty test drive i think the rings on 1 cylinder have packed up as im seeing alot of back pressure through the breather filter now.the timing was way out when i drove it and the fueling is still an issue i need to address.

i read on a thread written in 2006 that you can use a vaccum attached to a 'sensor' to fool the ecu into fueling more. icant for the life of me find it again! doh. im quite sure mike was commenting on the thread.

get a wip thread up in the project section.

You will have some **** telling you that youve built it on a bodge and it wont work etc by the way.

Looks real good that does mate, love DIY have a go turbo conversions.

yeah, sorry 200sx the s13 one as it has that funny elbow thing on it which was perfect.

Yep i'm again agreed with paul, get a wip going, looks excellent for diy stuff.

making heatshields will be fun for you, it will be interesting to follow.

thats what put me off doing a WIP thread on it! i dnt have the cash to buy fancy after market bits that just bolt on, i built this myself and am proud of it, far more rewarding than just paying someone to do it all for you in my opinion. some people dont understand that part though:(
the car started off as a manky old 1.2 white heap. me and my friend dave painted the car in a barn!!!

Good stuff for the diy manifold etc, dont expect it to last long running a out 10.5:1 CR though........

ive got heatsheild made! i have pics of it all built up, il think about doing a thread this week.

going to take the pistons out this week though and see if i can ge to the bottom of the smoke coming from the breather, hoping its just a ring!

some of the piston companies list an 8.5:1 cr piston for the south american market. might be an option worth looking at

cheers, i know the cr is very high for turbo lump, but it has been done on one of these engines and lasted a long time i might say! all on standard gear too!

Will depend on how much boost you intend on running....

Mike
08-03-09, 09:43 PM
Good plan with the manifold chap. I got as far as cutting up a perfect 4-1 lol then opted for a cast iron manifold instead for some trial & error explosions lol lol

Dirtydog1

10psi will be my max every day pressure, same as my mates was years ago.

Sloth
08-03-09, 10:31 PM
dude, if ya use the spi c16nz pistons it drops the cr to 9.5 to 1

im not too bothered about the compression ratio at the moment to be honest.ive seen this done with only a single gasket and it has worked and been extremely quick. i dont care if it only lasts me 6 months as il probably get bored with it anyway lol and if i dont, il just re-build it again, its so cheep to get bits for!

i was just after info on fueling, ie what pumps do ppl use, fuel pressure, and also timing???

Stuart
09-03-09, 09:37 AM
I'd say you will be doing 200bhp max, so a LET external fuel pump will do. And stock cam timing will be fine, I'd not get an alternative camshaft s they are ground for N/A behaviour

and spend say £250 on megasquirt to fuel it right, and that way you get to learn how to map an engine (rather than trying to force the std ECU to work.. which the turnip farmers never managed to do properly lol), and the Megasquirt is then portable to your next project etc...

i see, sounds intresting, im going to put the lump back together this week, got a new block thats in better condition than mine, so hopefully fingers crossed it will be a go'er! gunna go a bit steadier on this test drive tho, try and get the timing set up and the fuel pressure right before nailing it up the road lol might not crack the pistons this time!
