Need to take out my engine to get the engine bay sprayed, what is the best/safest way to take out the engine without using a hoist? thanks

out the bottom. undo the strut top mounts, bottom arm, trac control arms. then use a jack under the engine to support it whilst you undo the engine mounts. then lower the whole thing down.

either that or make sure the shell is high enough to start with so the you can drag the engine and everything from underneith it

Try to drop it on something with wheels makes life much easier!!:thumb:

my addition to this is take the bumper off & stick two metal bars into the holes on the front of the chassis rails, this makes the shell into a really big wheel barrow and it can be moved about really easily.

like so:

Use some thin ply layboards to slide the engine out, or 1.2s are light enough to rock out.

^ as Loggy said, ive found anything upto a GSi engine is light enough to drag out.

If you have two mates to help, two people can lift the front of the shell and someone can rock the engine out!

A lot handier to drop out the bottom with a crane if at all possible then hoist shell up and slide engine out.
