is there any way of telling if a redtop has a coscast head whilst it is still attached to the rest of the engine

Yes look at the casting where the exhaust manfiold heat shield bolts on. On GM heads they are round whereas the coscast ones are different.

http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Main.htm

click on the vauxhall picture then go to the bottom of the page and click on

View the full range of our Vauxhall kits & parts (http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Parts%20Catalogue.htm)

Then click on

Heads & modifications (http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Head_Components/Head_Mods/Heads_Mods.htm)

then under the pic of the head it will say

Coscast Head, please click here (http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Info_sheets/Cylinder%20heads/Coscast_heads.htm) for how to identify a Coscast Head

Then click :thumb:

Hi, the easiest way to tell is if it is a Coscast the there is no core plugs under the dizzy, if there is a core plug under dizzy then it is a GM head, Regards DM

Check through the exhaust manifold with a mirror, between 2 and 3 for the coscast stamp, as paul has pointed out above.

the stamp is under number 3 cylinder.

if smooth = gm

if feel some sort of text = coscast

i bought a full 20xe for £200 i sold head for £150 and rods/pistons for £50, so cant complain.

then sold another head for £180.

but some people will pay £300 odd for head if really want them....they look good on the 'spec' sheetslol
