View Full Version : Central locking unit Nova Sri
I need a little help from anyone in the no, I am fitting an alarm in me nova I need to know what the central locking system type is, it is the standard factory key operated system which obviously locks both doors from the drivers side only, is it a:- positive trigger, negative trigger, positive/negative trigger or pneumatic lock?
Please help asap my poor nova is in a wirey mess at the mo lol!!!!
You need to swap the drivers door actuator for a five wire one or add a two wire one to the factory one. The drivers is only a swich to tell the passenger what to do, thats why you can't lock the drivers from the passenger side

The Nova system is a negative trigger mate.
Graeme Dixon is right about the drivers door needing to be a motor rather then a switch. You'll be able to tell which is what as when you take out your driver door one and operate the plunger by hand it will be quiet and the motorised one you will be able to hear the motor move.
Trickiest bit is getting the driver one to work. I managed to get it working by wiring the alarm unit to a spare space on the drivers door plug but as it wont stay in position It intermitently works.
Let me know, if you get it working 100%, as I wanna see any differences to the way I have done mine so mine works properly.
Good luck :thumb:

quickest way is to use a passenger solenoid on the drivers side and the doors will only lock and unlock with the alarm not with the key in the lock. i ve got one here i think i ll post it free and if it works send a few quid my way.
Thanks all for the sound advice! I see what you all mean about the drivers side needing to be motorised in order to work with the alarm, that would be awesome if you could send me the passenger side solenoid brainsnova for me to try, if it works I will def forward a few quid! The only down side to doing that is your central locking will only work on the remote and not the key, here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Central-door-locking-motor-solenoid-five-wire_W0QQitemZ380107400631QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Ca rsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item380107400631&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318) is what you need then run the additional two wires over to the passenger side under dash tray, if you are going to tackle it this way, pm me once you have the actuator in place and I'll tell you how to wire it
I will probably de-lock the doors and do away with the locks completely to be honest, it looks better de-locked in my opinion and stops the thieves ripping the barrel out and breaking in! as my bro's clio did a few years back
Very true mate, but typically the alarm or remote will fail when you least need it to and your going to look stupid climbing in through the boot etc
I no what you mean it happened with one of my previous novas and my mates sr he had to, I supose its just a risk you take to protect your pride and joy lol

You can still lock / unlock the car via the key depending on what central locking motor you have. IIRC My driver door motor was from the boot of a Cavalier which means I can remote lock or use the key to lock.
Which is useful but I will probably delock it when the car goes for a respray.

Five-wire actuator in the drivers door is how I've allways done my nova's, simply replace the 3 wire one in the standard position and you shouldn't have any problems with alignment.
Run the 2 extra wires across to the standard relay, connect the wires from the alrm to the relay and there you are, job done.
You can use either an after-market 5 wire actuator, or hunt one out of the drivers door of a mk3 astra, mk3 cavalier, a carlton etc.
