unfortunately i'm going to have to go, i have work in 8 hours.
although some people dismiss me as some sort of trouble maker, i'm really not. i just have certain issues (which as i turns out, i'm not alone in thinking)...........i hope this thread is still here when i get back from work tommorow as i'd love to know other peoples thoughts on it (admin/club and non members and noobs)...........surely a discussion on the good and bad points of the forum can only be good for the club???

to be fair, i expect better than that. i've been on here 7 years now (never been banned yet though! although had a few posts dissapear ;) ).....and i still don't get how the place runs.......a thread attracting 100's of replys gets deleted for no reason (its in the right place.. muppet corner) and the admin see fit to hack into peoples accounts and change or delete what they write/send peoples 'rep' into the red with the click of a mouse.....good way to run a car club, new members will really wanna stay around while that goes on?

Dave, seriously, take off your anarchist hat. It got deleted because it was a small number of people posting dull drivel. Yes, the muppet corner is for off topic banter, but thats post whoring of an epic proportion (which hacks off many members, evidenced by a number of replies in this very thread). As for hacking into people's accounts and changing stuff - you need to get out more if you think thats all admin spend their days doing. We do not "hack" people's accounts, but we do have the power to edit and remove posts we deem suitable for moderation, and always have legitmate reason to do so.
Clearly you have beef with the running of the club. May I ask why? And show us examples of where we've edited posts and got all Stalinist on members?

Sure, we don't watch the forum 24/7 (no, not even me...) but if our intervention or input is required - such as in this thread - we will respond as needed.

lol my intention wasn't to "pwn" anyone, merely provide responses to the issues raised in this thread so far (it was gone 1am, I'd just read a looong thread and was tired so apologies if my responses were a bit curt). Despite what some believe, mods/admins aren't out to get people, there is no cliqué (only a relationship between long standing members and newer members - but this is evident on almost any forum out there), and if points are raised we do look into them and provide replies as required. Hence the above.
As for admin repping people, admin rep power is worth +/-100 points. Thats the software default setting, its the same on many other forums. I seem to recall you didn't have much in the way of rep to begin with, and you're on -78 at the mo so i would guess only one admin has neg'd you. Either way, as often stated, rep is just a bit of fun and not a serious part of the forum :)

Dave, again, please provide evidence of said hacking (which, by definition, implies an admin has illegitimately gained access to a member account, to sign in as that member and make amendments under the guise of said member).
Admin have the power to edit people's posts as deemed necessary - we don't take this function lightly or use it for dubious gain, despite what you seem to think - but this is not hacking. Its merely application of administration roles/duties. Is this what you have issue with?
As for the number of posts, that all depends on content. Suffice to say 30-odd pages of exchanges between 3 or 4 members is to be considered spam.

call it what you like, it happens. it happened in the a or b thread, but because its gone i can't check who to, or when....but i seem to remember someone wrote something and then 2 minutes later it was changed along the lines of 'this is what admin power can do', probably followed by a load of -rep for said person.

Its being considerate to others. Most people wouldn't want to trawl through 30 pages of what is a conversation between a handful of people - as said before, the chat application was implemented for that reason (if you can't get it to work, try an IRC client). Ok, you could say don't read the thread if you don't want to, but on a 30 page thread, most people will get a few pages in before they realise its small scale conversation and skip the rest. I have to admit, I haven't read the entire thread, however I have read all of this one.

Jeez if I knew it was "hacking" then maybe I should get a job for some tinterwebs security firm as its a piece of piss to edit other posts :p

I'm ok for that thanks and tbh honest I don't see a clique I have been on nl/png for years under various guises and have always found it useful to any thread I have started, its obvious if people have met face to face or have communicated for a long time previous that they are going to get on with each other more. Tbh when a noob announces themselves they get loads of welcome messages, sometimes pages and pages. This isn't just my opinion I have introduced the site to a couple of friends who use it regularly and they too find it easier and more helpful than other Vauxhall sites
Firstly, thankyou RJ for summing it up politely.
Secondly, if you all feel the need to talk bollox to each othr, I will happily start a thread for you all to while away the small hours talking about biscuits and fluff etc. It will be stickeyed in Muppet corner, and every one who doesn't want to read your errant ramblings can avoid it, and it will keep those who this annoys happy by illeviating the amount of crap all over muppet corner. ANy random crap will be moved here instead of deleting them so you can have hours of joy talking crap whilst filling the server space at the expense of the paying members.
Thirdly, the favouritism issue. Im afraid some people get away with things and some people get caught. The people who post an enourmous amount of gash will probably be caught out more than someone who posts little. This is what happens when the people who run the club dont actually sit on the forum for the entire day moderating. If my inbox is anything to go by, the report button appears to work perfectly, and I happen to know EVERY query is looked into. Heres a crazy fecking idea. You dont like something, report it, instead of crying like a bitch on the forum how being on here is such a crushing bore, and you are all being suppressed.
Rules. Guess what, Mr SLothsport was one of the forerunners who insisted there was a set of clear rules to the forum. Before this, it was run on a common sense basis. He who lives by the sword dies by the sword.
Hacking accounts? I personally think this is a load of bull, but any evidence of foul play i would like to see obviously.
And on a final note, Stuarts actions are 100% backed up by us, he may be harsh and to the point, but this place would be a damn site worse if it wasnt for his efforts, as well as the rest of the mod team who do a great job on here, despite being called a bunch of Nazis.

If you dont use the report button, dont blame us if we dont happen to see something, and then assume it is favouritism. Simples.
And we have every right to edit a post if it breaches the rules im afraid. If your post has been edited to read 'i am gay' or 'i have sex with farm animals', i would agree you have a case, but most of the time it will be replaced by the word 'removed' and / or replaced with the reason why to avoid cutting the flow of the threads. Best way to avoid having a post edited OR deleted is to not break the rules. Again, Simples.

And we have every right to edit a post if it breaches the rules im afraid. If your post has been edited to read 'i am gay' or 'i have sex with farm animals', i would agree you have a case, but most of the time it will be replaced by the word 'removed' and / or replaced with the reason why to avoid cutting the flow of the threads. Best way to avoid having a post edited OR deleted is to not break the rules. Again, Simples.
nice point in theory, but stu has already admitted changing someones reply from.. 'this is censorship blah blah blah' to deleting it all and replacing it with.....'this is censorship'...have some -rep 'i'm a massive power freak etc etc'

stu, my beef is that the levels of moderation differs dependant on the mod/admin member. surely an equal amount is required, as one mod/admin will hand out a 2 year ban, the other a "dont do it again" dependant on who commits the offence. (thats not a pop at one member of the team btw.)

TBH i think this whole thing about stu changing tht post slightly is a bit petty no offence intended but i see it as a laugh, id he changed it to "i mate cows" then i could see why your upset, but as it is i dont think its a big deal,:thumb:

I'd just like to add, don't take this to mean the forum won't go un-moderated. Posts that are direct breaches of the rules will still be investigated, and if required will be deleted or edited (NOT "hacked", as pointed out before, hacking is a different kettle of fish. It would be like a bank giving you a loan, then the next day accusing you of theft...).

No, its used to minimise moderation. If a post is valid yet breaches the rules, we may edit the post instead of remove it, OR if removal of a post will cause muchos confusion its easier just to edit it.
From a moderator point of view, it shows as edited anyway.
And if I was looking for a reason to ban you, I'd have just done it long ago. I'm merely answering the points you're bringing up. Isn't that what you want?

Because thats just the way the software works, its the same on any forum mate.
You wont get banned on here for bad taste so if youre looking for a ban then youre gonna have to do something more extreme than that like post porn or something like that, and trust me from mod/admin experience (not on here on another forum) you get more stress and annoyance than amusement, if you even get that!
