hi , my c20xe has given up, iv got blue smoke and bottom end is knocking.

i can get another engine that is an early type, but mine is later type.

can i use my later loom on the early engine? im pretty sure i can just not 100%.

what will i have to swap over? sensors?

and can i still keep the early engine using the early type cam belt setup as i prefer that setup.?

will i have to swap exhaust cams? as mine is coil pack and has a sensor instead of a dizzy.

You cant use early type cambelt setup as they are routed differently. Loom should be useable on the early engine.

need to put the late dizzy cam in, as it will have lug on the end of it IIRC. and blank the dizzy off.

You also need to mount the coilpack.

Ignition amplifier replaces the coil.

Need to put the blues in and the rail with the FPR.

The later inlet and tb also, as theyre marginally better set up.

The air pipe from AFM to the airbox (filter as you need the air temp sensor).

AFM, ECU, you can maintain the early type cambelt set up.

At the moment I cant thin of anythign that you need to do?

Basically just take the head off of you engine drop the bottom end out and just bang the new one in...

ECU wont work. its 2.5 motronic on early and 2.8 on late.

Why do you want to mainatin the early cambelt? they are just harder to tension correctly.

I tensioned mine quite easily. Granted, it was sat on an engine stand though lol

Sorry to go off in the wrong direction but why don't you just rebuild this one?

At least you know the engines history and whats been done to it rather then an engine you a much less familiar with.

That's what Id do tbh.

It's your time and money though :thumb:

The early engine has a stronger bottom end so if it's a good runner it'll be a better choice to go with IMO.

Alternator obviously running on a single V belt already?

I read some where the crank sensors are different between early and late but cant confirm that.
