  at wisewood i know your gonna feel a well big difference in the power shep dip. just take it easy  . well thats kinda hard when u r used to a 1.2 i and now have 1.6 8v :D

I hope the brakes have been uprated! Otherwise Neil will end up in a field or something.

It's like the time I went form an SR quick with shit brakes, to an Astra Diesel, slow with superb brakes!

I drove for 9 hours in it and I didn't hit anything! Or overtake anything!

Ben Ritchie
03-01-03, 07:24 PM
c'mon u must of overtaken something.

Chris LR
03-01-03, 07:27 PM
Absolutly nothing. I was delivering tools.
So I was weighed down, It had a full tank of diesel.
It's unturbocharged and developed 57bhp, I'd say more like 30!

NO NEED TO SHOUT!

:P

u excited mate?

i know i will be when my car gets done this month

we will have to have a blast in each others or have them RR and see what the difference is like

a little bird tells me that the 1.6 astra engine aint that strong actually.

but will still be quicker than 1.2 anyway.

Ben Ritchie
03-01-03, 08:08 PM
what little bird has been telling you that wisewood :?:

wisewood
03-01-03, 08:11 PM
quite a large little bird actually... lol - apparently he's mi daddy

Ben Ritchie

  at wisewood wot did he say bout the engine like?

Nova1.6
03-01-03, 08:18 PM
Ok got me car, couple things im not pleased about, he's kept the same injection system, single point, and theres a flat spot at bout 7000rpm but then after that it kicks in a flys.(he told me this and ive found out from driving it home) I guess i could gett a bigger fuel tank.
Anyway, just got to get use to it.
Nearly had a crash, not my fault, this car went round a sharp corner way to fast and strated to skid towards me :o , luckly he got control about a foot away from me!

Glad you happy with it mate.
just get it "tweaked" and you are sorted.

Jim

theres a flat spot at bout 7000rpm but then after that it kicks in a flys.

What does it Rev to? I don't like taking mine past 7000rpm and I've got carbs :?

Jim

03-01-03, 08:41 PM
i was thinking the same thing actually - do not batter it neil... you'll end up with no hea gasket again and 250 for the engine should have left you just about pennyless i reckon

Nova1.6
03-01-03, 09:03 PM
yeah,, what can i do to get rid of the flat spot and tune it bit more? Anyideas?
I wont floor it, but its like when i change gear then put foot on gas its takes a while.
yeah im skint

wisewood
03-01-03, 09:07 PM
lol - neil... why is it at 7000 revs just after you changed gear?

MattyWoo
03-01-03, 09:11 PM
me thinks he means 700!

Nova1.6
03-01-03, 09:36 PM
yeah prob 700, wat can i do to clear it?

Aragorn
03-01-03, 10:22 PM
um 700rpm?? thats below idle speed

anythin under 1500rpm is gonna be really dead

and the SPi unit on the 1600???

have u got the lambda probe on it??? if not its gonna eat fuel like a mofo and overfuel like mad (permenantly in cold-start mode)

Chris LR
03-01-03, 10:22 PM
Piss in the fuel tank.

Nova1.6
03-01-03, 11:21 PM
well i could try that, but seriously.....what shall i do? Clutch is right hard to press down, guess it's a new clutch.(pointless fact)

Go to the gym and do some seated calf raises.

sounds too me like thy have left your 1.2 injection system on the 1.6 block (ill have a word with will at cossvaux next time i go up). A stiff clutch will mean thats its old a fecked, or the clutch cable is knackered

Chris LR
04-01-03, 12:33 AM
I'd go with a cable

Nova1.6
04-01-03, 12:55 AM
olly, what should i do bout clutch? im seeing him 2morow so ill ask then?

mikeoxford
04-01-03, 01:01 AM
try a new or a cable from a scrappy

ollster
04-01-03, 01:01 AM
well ask him if the clutch is old or not, also ask if the cable was ok when they fitted it. Is it a single point injection or a carb.

04-01-03, 01:04 AM
sheep m8,this enigne conversion doesnt sound so good now :?
they put SPI on a bigger engine, fucked a clutch,
id go back with a few quotes from ya law books boy

Nova1.6

what a fuckup

vaux do have a 1.6SPi engine that goes in cavs n prolly astras too

find out which head they used:

if the head has 12 stamped on the front (to the right of cylinder 4 just before dizzy) its your old 1200 head and has the scabby cam shaft, if its this head then get a 1400SR cam and whap that in, that should give a nice increase in oomph

if its got 16 or nothing stamped at the end its prolly the original astra head, ive not got specs on the original camshaft that goes in that engine but outta the nova range the 14NV cam appears to be the best (highest lift), look on the engine block for the engine model and have a shifty thru an astra haynes manual to find the lift, if its less than 6.12mm then again fit the 14NV cam

regardless of the head used:- u might also get some more performance by fitting an injector from an 1600 SPi (vaux part number 17112022) and possibly a pressure regulator from the 1600 too (17113042) if they have infact kept your 1200 injection system.

Also MAKE SURE the lambda probe is on it otherwise it will more than likely underfuel (i said overfuel earlier but the map will be setup for a 1200 not a 1600 so it will underfuel all the time unless the probe tells it that its leaning out)

Nova1.6

it's not the same head, most of the engine has been replaced, with my injection system on top. he has said he's going to look around and see if he can get a higher injection system.

The car drives ok now, just set off slowly and the top speed is FAST!

looks like i could blow off some shity corsa's.

Was in this shopping mall and the little black plastic thing for the clutch at the engine end came off, matufactures fault, he came to me and changed it. fine now.

Aragorn

you STILL havent said wether or not its got the lambda probe

u WILL fuck the engine if its running lean, and u'll clog it up if its running rich

Nova1.6
04-01-03, 09:45 PM
how can i tell?

Aragorn
04-01-03, 10:24 PM
if u look at the exhaust manifold

as it all combines into 1 pipe there is a little barrel about 1.5" long thats bolted into the side of the manifold with a single wire coming out of it and connecting into the loom just beside the engine fan

if uve got the 4-2-1 manifold u prolly dont have the lambda probe since there is nowhere for it to go

i'd really reccomend boring a hole for the sensor if it aint there and tapping it into the system somwhere

Nova1.6
05-01-03, 01:27 AM
no mine aint got that, funnily enough i saw a manifold with that things on it in the workshop.
when ive got the money im going to get a bigger injection system and a full s/s exhaust including manifold.

mikeoxford
05-01-03, 05:44 PM
but neil mate what aragorns saying i think is if you run too long without the lambda itll f00k it up :? ??? dunno

Nova1.6
05-01-03, 06:40 PM
ooooooh, ill ask wil next time im at cossvaux.

Aragorn
05-01-03, 08:45 PM
ok that could be a major issue

the engine uses the lambda probe to correct the fuelling (like the GTE uses an airflow meter on the intake)

without the lambda the engine permenantly runs in "cold-start mode" this is a preprogrammed set of mappings that overfuels so as to act like a choke on a carb

once the lambda probe heats up the engine switches off cold start and adjusts the fuelling properly

now since youve not got a lambda its running in cold-start BUT the MAP its using is for a 1200 so even tho it would have been overfuelling the 1200 you will more than likely be running lean which will damage the engine (can possibly even cause piston meltdown if its very lean)
