View Full Version : SNAP OFF SYSTEM!
Can anybody please give me details of a place which I can buy a snap off system for my nova?
I have foned around and got a quote of ?292 from demon tweeks including a steering wheel.
Was hoping for something around ?250!
The average price for the snap off kit which I have seen is ?100. does anyone have a snap off steering system whcih they got cheaper?!
I decided to go for a snap off wheel instead of a CAT 1 alarm because you get the added styling of a steering wheel and the smae type of security if not better. Not to mention I alraedy have remote central locking.
Any other security suggetions are welcome!
Cheers in advance Chris

yeah yu have cat one security but it dont fit in you back pocket. You will need a pack of huskies to take you steering wheel everywhere. And people will laugh if you go to the cinema with a steering wheel. Dont say you leave it in the boot cos thats like arming your alarm then leaving the keys in the ignition. You cant beat a good alarm. Go for an alarm then style your car.
Fair comment neil....
However, I havnt got the kit yet! Just asking if anybody knows of cheaper or has other suggestions!
Also, park car at college, steering wheel goes in bag, at home, on the side or if you are at the cinema etc, then leave it in the boot chained up to something if you really have too! But then of course there is the fact that you need the key to put it back on, so if it wasnt for the fact that someone would break in to just nick the steering wheel, you could leave it on the drivers seat!
:o
I agree that a Cat 1 is a good option and the same money, but my car is delocked and no steering wheel is more of a deterrent to potential theives than a few stickers etc saying clifford or toad.
Please keep posting your views and any cheaper snap off kits that anybody knows of!

if u can wait for a bit get yourself to a show - You MAY be lucky
at performance vauxhall 2002 i bought meself a snap off boss kit for ?45 brand new.
needless to say i was VERY impressed with my find and i couldnt believe it - bought it there and then.
i already had a steering wheel on my car (swapped it from a mate who owed me cash) took it off his hands for ?40 of his debt
so all in all i spent ?85 and its fan tastic!
on the VERY rare occsions VERY RARE i have to leave the wheel in the car, i pop open my boot which is delocked and debuttoned only keyfob allowing entrance - so no one can get in unless they getinto the cockpit of the car and bash the crap out of my MDF shelf.
anyway
in my boot i have made something similar to the steering wheel hub if you like, and i snap the steering wheel onto the back of one of my seats! - cant get it off without the key, and they certainly couldnt run off with wheel without taking a seat with em!
well i definately recommend a snap-off. i have had the same one for 2 years in two different cars.
Mine doesn't have a key as it was in a car i bought and didn't get one but there is a little hole in the snap-off and i put a padlock through this. can't be put on to the boss till the lock comes off.
I think if someone looks into a car and see no wheel its a good turn off to robbing it. in fairness even if its somewhere in the car im sure they wouldn't waste the time lookin for it unless a person is dumb enough to park up a "dark alleyway" in which case a robber could have a pinic while doing their business!!!
I say buy one. its worth every penny

I agree with the above, the snap off steering wheel looks the bollocks, plus you can take it off when it is parked overnight at home for example so no one can drive it anywhere. I have a Momo Champion snap off wheel with a raid boss. All in it cost approx ?250, you should be able to get one second hand for half that. Have a look at the following site for details, hope it helps.

i got a snap off and a cat 1.
the only thing i worried about about if sum 1 grabs it off me.
then i cant get home
:(
seriously, get a cat 1 first, protecting the whole car from being stolen or stolen out off, then do the steering wheel.
See your point there!
Be a bit stupid if someone grapped it, just as easy for them to grap your keys and alarm fob!!! So makes no difference really!
If the steering wheel is left in the car on a rare occasion! Then it would be chained up or as a person above said fixed to a fitting on the rear seat!
I will get a CAT 1, but my car is delocked and I have a standard alarm to make the noise and give a little prevention.
At the end of the day, a CAT 1 will cost the same and probably have the same effect if not slightly worse, (they can be bypassed, by someone who knows what they are doing, usually in well under 15 mins)
A snap off cant really be bypassed, unless the person is willing to smash the steering hub up and drive the car using a wrench on the column!!!!
Found a kit for ?79.99 for a momo and a boss to fit it for ?25!
Yet to find cheaper!

A snap off cant really be bypassed,
 yeh right
Alrite then,
But Id put money on the fact that if there were two cars, exactly the same or even different to be honest. A twocer would rather have a go on the one with a steering wheel.
As we all know, security is often more about deterring, rather than stopping!
Besides, if your car is nicked to order then nothing will really stop em unless you got an automatic machine gun protecting the fucka!

In all fairnes I've got one of the best systems. It's a black box without any name on it (came from a friend of a friend of a friend) and it's just your basic Alarm Imobiliser. but the noise that the alarm makes is at a really high/low frequency, so it hurts your ears, forcing you to stay at least 15 feet away from the car.
Yep, that is pretty cool, doesnt it kill your battery if set off a few times between drives! I mean, it sounds pretty powerful to be that bad!
My alarm is forever going off (paranoid me setting it to max sensativity) so when someone even leans on the car its off! But i prefer that because you always get stupid kids running round it and playin footy in the road and since I have to park car on road its the best option.
N e ways, my battery is on the way out so I am probably wrong when it comes to yours!
But of course from a nicking point of view, there is always the good old earplugs or fingers in ears until they can get the bonnet open and kill the thing!

1. Do u know where I park my car?
2. Do you always carry them with you?
3. Do most car theives carry those with them?

lol u won't need to wear them..... ur alarm won't be over 115db... and that doesn't cause problems
No need to bitch lads!
But i agree, in all honesty, a little noise won't deter the cnuts, if it does, they will just come back with those heavy duty fcukers!

Best thing is phone up the department of transport who collate firgures relating to theft of vehicles and ask them what is the most effective form of security of a nova.
