Hole In your Heater Matrix?

if there is a hole in your heater matrix then you will loose engine coolant. Are you?

Depends on how much water were talking?

the floor pans are flat so any water in the front ones can easli dribble/float/run/pass/leak into the rear ones. like filling an ice tray.
Do you have a sunroof?

I've known cars to leak round windscreens - often diff. to spot tho cos it happens behind the dash. Strip all your carpets etc out down to bare metal. Dry it all out. Then when its raining hard get in with a torch and have a good look about particularly under the dash and around where the leccy loom goes into the engine bay etc. If it stays dry inside go for a drive thru some largish puddles. You might find that its being blasted up thru holes in the floor?

originally, it woz only the drivers side thats bin wet before, now da passanger side is soaked 2, and on the passanger side iv spoted sum dripin from up undr and behind the dash

cant c exactly wher its cumin from but luks like behind the glove box sumwher

also tho my coolant is right down to da bottom ov da tank!:s iv onyl got a haynes manual 4 MK1 novas, r the hoses for the heaters in the same place or do they cum in the car sumwher else?higherup or sumin??

wud this b the cause ov the leak or is it likely to b sumin else??

its rainin agen:(:(:(!!!!

hmmm weird... as the matey above sed check the hole on the opposite side of the battery, its a rubber grommit, and rubber goes hard, so it could have split?? therefore letting in water... have you checked everything such as door rubbers? I know the sunroof is a prob, mine condensates terrribly, i often open my boot, infact i always open my boot and find that my amp is damp! i also get wet carpet in the boot aswell. If your car has rust, id check for this aswell.

im not taking the piss,
u sure the windows r properly, shut.
make sure theres not that lil gap in the top,jus check,
ive done this in the carlton so many times,go out and sat on a wet eletric seat(also a broken eltric seat).
just cheak.
if not i reckon its the rubber grommit in the floor.

The heater pipes come through the bulkhead in the midle of the dash, it's been a while since I replace matrix but I'm guessing the pipes come through around the same height as your hazard switch.

As the back is geting wet I'd rule out the Matrix but if your losing coolant it's got to be going somewhere.

Like CC said check everything is shut, and take a hosepipe to your car, jack it up and spray the underside as well if you can. Remember to take your carpets out first!

Check for a hole where the wiper motor is, just below that you may have a couple of holes where you have a pipe and some wiring loom, mines rusted away and i can see my footwell quite clear!
Guv had the same prob i think!
Erm, i ant got my car ere atm 2 have a look 4 certain where the loom and pipe is, but im certain its just under the wiper moter, near the suspension top!
Hope it was of some help!

the underlay for the carpet (spongey stuff) will soak and move water into other footwells including behing the seats. Have seen it happen many times so the leak doesn't have to be in the most obvious place!

another spot not mentioned yet where i have seen leaks is through the little holes where the door wiring leaves the footwell (behind the grey panel under the shelf) i only found this when the interior was all out and i hosed all around the car!

In the back seal up the gromets under the seats. have seen water weep in here too. also have seen water leak in through the rear shock turrets which then runs down to underneath the seat!

Take out all front gromets too and seal up!

if when you have run out of ideas try this!

Drain the coolant all out then leave the car. If you have no water in the car then, it is bound to be the heater matrix. I can get one for ya for free if you let me know in the next couple of days. Just askin for postage money. LEt us know mate!
