Does the manifold need to come off completely or can i just loosen it so it hangs down?
Obviously with having an XE the rad and manifld are VERY close together and i remember it being a right fight to fit it!

Cheers.

remove the manifold for ease, only takes a few mins extra, makes it easier to clear the strainer an easier to re-fit, you doing the rubber mod? Remove the rad fan first!

Held on with 2x 10mm head bolts iirc. if you have a dizzy, it's easier to get the fan out with the dizzy removed.

talking from expereience here, do the rubber sump gasket mod, it'll never leak again! Worth the effort too if you're gonna be removing the manifold etc.

Think it's about £16 from vauxhall. Anyone know the part number?

If done right then the std cork gaskets don't leak, my LET never lost a drop.
Its worth checking that the surface of the sump is flat, might even be worth flating it off, if its not perfectly flat then it aint gonna seal, even if you use the 8v gasket.

You not got anything at work, engineering block or summet ?? just need a perfectly flat block to sit the sump on to make sure its all flat.
Is its just slightly out then you can flat it off, again you'll need a flat block and some grinding paste, or take itto a machine shop and get it skimmed.
Fitting it, just make sure everythings perfectly clean and dry, use a small smear of RTv sealant on each face of the gasket then just tourqe the bolts up.
Should be sweet.
