Just got a phone call from Sheep Dip...
He has been offered a 1600 engine and 5 speed box, fully fitted for ?250.

So his head gasket problem is no real worry now as he is having a new engine instead :D

He is a bit worried about killing himself... but hey... I wont miss him

Neil - keep an eye on the temperature and just drive it there carefully.
if temp starts getting too high stop and let it cool down again.

Its not like you have to worry about shagging the engine... it wont be in it when it comes back again. :D

i've been driving my car everyday since i put a first post on here about my head gasket, temp has never gone high, the car drives fines, it's just when it's in traffic and it's idle that it desides to f?ck up.

I'm getting it in tonight so it should be done either this weekend or mon-tues next week. anyone wanna buy a 1.2i with head gasket gone?
thats a point, got a 1.2 green cotten air filter induction kit for sale. ?20.

Nova1.6
02-01-03, 05:39 PM
it's an astra 1.6 8v. he dont know how many miles it's done, it's in perfect nick, i know the guy and he asures me that if i hadn't of brought it he would of put it in bin, coz he's not got the time to sell it, he would sell it for more then he's giving it to me. how good it is to have contacts!

Phoned up liverpool victoria, quote for that mod is...with me being 19 and bday on 29th june 1983...
?763 with no NCB and a ?450 excess,
or
?653 with 1 yrs NCB and ?450 excess. i can lower the excess if i want.

So see u there quicker at the next meet!

nice one neil.
but remember - don't get back in your car and nail it like you normally would with the 1600 in it or you will get whiplash and seconds later find yourself in the back of the car infront - which if you believe the adverts will be a toyota

Have u thought about doin any engine mods 2 it once its all bin fitted like a turbo/kent kams or u just leaving it standard wot is the standard power on a gsi anyway isnt a 100bhp or somink and about 120mph id really like 2 get a 1.6 16v then turbo charge it but with me only being 16 nealy 17 i'd prb have 2 go for the same as urs and leave it standard part from an induction kit

Aragorn

im assuming that its the same as the GTE engine and not a 1600 on a 2E3??

if so, u have arranged a fuel tank and pump for it right??

ther SPi's injection system is about 4times lower pressure than the GTE MPi system

spi is about 0.7 bar the GTE runs 3 bar, you'll prolly need new fuel lines and a new pump at least, possibly a new tank too, not sure if it needs a swirl pot or anythin

also remember that some of the astra lumps are big block and u dont really wanna be doing a big block conversion for a 1600 now do ya :)

i dont know, he said he'll do it so runs normal. so obviously he'll do everything so it will run. i want to get induction for it and twin carbs n whatever, but i think ill get use to the 1600 first without killing myself!

are you uprating brakes suspension etc or anything else?

Nova1.6
02-01-03, 08:24 PM
getting bigger brakes next weekend, got them orded and sorted already, getting some nice big vented ones. Suspension is already dropped -60mm on shocks and springs, recon ill need the front arches doing as they'll be more weight there.

There was an astra outside the workshop, J reg, not a GSi or GTE or anything.

Cant wait!

He'll ring me 2morow to let me know when it'll be ready.
He's dong it 2morow.

he's also done me suspension kit which was ?218 and fitted it for ?230 in total.

The company is Cossvaux, they do all the work for PVD(Performance Vauxhall Development)

hes got a carb version coming

neil mate

you cant have a true induction kit on a carb setup

twin 40s are also carbs

so if you go twin 40s they will have whats called trumpets - basically air intakes NOT induction

if you have the carb on there - u can do what i found out th other day and butcher parts from other cars and make an induction kit and fit a k&n 57i but its not true unduction as u ent got injection!

still think ittl be sweet tho!

do the induction mod u no u wanna!

dont worry bout the arches yet mate, mine lowered 60 mm on 16" rims, went from 14sr to 2 litre 16v, and i swear it hasnt dropped any more!
but seriously, as wisewood says do take it easy cos u wont of bin used to the increased power, and you dont wana spend all that cash and then write her off! take it easy.

yeah i will, to be honest, im going to drive sensibley and if im on a striaght with a a car full of lads acting cocky then i might give it a bit. lucky 80% of the roads from mine to leannes are dual carage ways, so easy!
Any tips of what to do about DVLA and forms n that for the different engine size?

100 QUID!!! ??

Nova1.6
03-01-03, 12:39 PM
100 quid, u sure thats right?

Dicko
03-01-03, 04:24 PM
yep thats how much they are.
an ok GTe with tax/MOT goes for ?400 these days
the astra engine will have a 2e3 carb and although be much less hassle to fit wont be a patch on a GTE engine.
might be worth getting a GTE head if your gonna fit 40's as the astra 1600 head is not as good!
