bearings and pistons rings!
buy a decent digital vernier & read the haynes book for the engine. then measure everything, twice.....

You have stripped a low milage XE :tard: Why?
Main and big end bearings?? measure what exactly.
when you are stripping an engine, you are looking for any wear that is more than the manufacturers tolerances.

Just wanted to give it a real good clean up;) i only intended on fitting new head gasket etc then realised since i'd got halfway i may aswell renew anything i could get my hands on basically just for peace of mind:thumb: i think changing bearings maybe be unessacery due to mileage but that is why i ask..to find out what are the main/first things to wear on an xe??
any engine gets wear in the crank bearings, pistons, valves, cam etc. then there is the oil pumpp gears that you may as well change and the seals.

Put some arp rod bolts in it and get the crank balanced too. Also have you kept all the bearings matched to the correct conrod/crank journal? If your not replacing them its important you put everything back in the same place it came out.Have you got a cam belt kit or just a cam belt?

just a cambelt although i now wana full kit, think its worth doing! Yes dont worry everything has been kept together:) and doesn't look to be any wear, was thinking of getting the crank balanced but where is the best place for it??

TIP - avoid the ebay oil pumps - seem very hit and miss - try and get a GM one on tradeclub.

i'm glad you mentiond that that because i did buy mine off ebay:( and the gear/sleave that sits onto the crank feels a bit sloppy:confused: not sure wether its suppose to?? thought mabye it could just be because theres no oil inside it..??

A good engine builder should have access to a balancing machine.
