hi just wondering what was everones prefferd oil used in an xe engine, im using castrol gtx magnatec semi syn, 15w 40.

In an XE I'd personally use 5w40 Mobil one SuperSyn stuff. My Bro uses 0w40 in his XEV and so does my dad in his SEH. If its good enough for them its good enough for an XE.

Apparently Magnatec is not all thats its cracked up to be.

everybody had different advises.

the Opel dealer here always used castrol edge 10w60 in the 'abuse' 20xe and lets (the build a few 1/4 mile racers). its the bmw M oil, and its focking expensive.

vmax says 10w50, EDS says 10w60... but changing from semi to full synthetic can cause problems to...

opel is also weird, the always used 10w40, and when you come in now, you'll get 5w30..

been told it's done about 80k approx but who know's. my tappets are tapping badly on startup, i know it probaly need's a rebuild, of which im saving up for, but for now i thought changing the velosity of the oil might help

I had the same problem with the seach white2lsr, sorry no matches etc, so i started new thread.

Try a thinner oil like 10w40 or 5w40 for the time being. It will give you the same protection when hot as its still 40 grade but its better for start ups as it will flow better when cold, till you can get your rebuild sorted.

BMW M powered cars use TWS Motorsport.

Castrol oil oils are generally toss, I used Magnatec in my old Corsa Sport and it was not a happy running on it. I put Proper Vauxhall Semi back in and it was fine.
For a decent oil at a reasonable price use Vauxhalls own stuff, its made by Fuchs I have been told and it is suited to the engines.
Or decent oils would be Shell Helix or Mobil 1, there are a few other decent ones out there.

some good advice lad's, i think i'll go for the vauxhall own oil, & give that a try.
