Any pics of how people have moved the rad forward??

Cheers

You have to move it forward as turbo does foul the rad. Glad you are thinking of upgrading to a mans engine!

I just drilled two new holes further forward and moved it to centre at the same time. Can see how it all fits in first page of my rebuild thread.

Thats how i did mine, moved it as far forward as poss and centralised it, the rad pipes / boost pipes tend to hold it in positition ok.

can you not bend the rad like they do with bikes ?

Pistol Pete

Would it not split?

Crap the rads gotta be moved forward? Didnt know that. Though it was just the fan on the back that was close.

Its all fun and games fitting these LET's Benn. Looks like you might be smoothing over the old radiator holes in your crossmember too now?

How to artical written by the simps, very usefull

Its hard to see from the pic but I drilled a whole in the slam panel and put a long bolt thru that goes to the old fan shroud mounting point. This will then pull and hold the rad as far forward as it needs to be...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/TheSimps/Nova/Nova%20Coupe%20Project/29-09-084.jpg

On then goes the fan and as you can see it all clears...

So basically just make two new holes for the rad legs to sit in....

Centralising it will also give room for boost pipe around the pass side of the rad....

Graeme

By the looks of it, that what you have to do

Adam

Yeah, just had a look in Lee H;s wuip thread

Depends what intercooler you use. But most will need to run boost pipes either side of the rad so needs to be centralised anyway. No more effort to move it forward at the same time

basically as said, th turbo will hit the back of it, move it forward bout an inch or 2. zip tie the top of it in!

But if you want to move the rad to the middle of the car then do the following...

So turbo into place...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/TheSimps/Nova/Nova%20Coupe%20Project/29-09-081.jpg

Take a couple of the original mount rubber and chop the little bits off...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/TheSimps/Nova/Nova%20Coupe%20Project/29-09-08.jpg

Put the rad into place in the middle and drill two respective holes...

Another advantage of centralising it is for clearance of the bottom rad hose for the f28 mount. On my red nova I just moved the left hand rad mount hole forward so I could run an oil cooler down the left but it meant I had to do this...

In the standard position the normal pipe fouls like so...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/TheSimps/Nova/Nova%20LET%20Build/180307122.jpg

I had to work round this on my old one due to my oil cooler position and lack of space so I made a new water hose and modified the mount...

Thats the difference between a LET conversion and a pukka LET conversion. You have the skills Benn don't worry. Its the part of the conversion that needs thought and takes the time.

I would move to the middle mate then chop out the triangle section either down to a ledge or out completly. Creates SOOO much room its unreal and you won't see it with the bumper in place anyway.

Yeah i know, still gonna be a c**t, looks like i'll have to cut my front pannel then. More so as my rad fans front mounted.

The Simps

You can rear mount the fan benn, just reverse the wires.

I had similar issues when it came to the fan on mine, i went for a smaller 7" front mounted one.

Benn rear mount your fan and away you go. IMHO it would make the packaging better.

I know that i told you!
I think there look crap on the back, looks much cleaner hidden away on the front. I found it works ten times better too.

Package better? And surely if i need to move the rad for ward then theres no room on the back?

The Simps

There's room on the back to the left like my white one is mounted and I think thats a 12" fan.

You could always fit like 2x 6" fans on front or something, depends how tall you want the cooler.

Rick Draper

Benn if you are buying elgans cooler then i am sure that shows you in the pics if the fan was front or rear mounted.

Benn

Elgans fans on the back i'm guessing. As the ic looks like its sitting flat tight to the rad.
Am looking at a long but thin ic on ebay at the mo

See my project thread for what i've been planning..
