View Full Version : 14NZ help please....
1.4 Nova flair (carbed 14nv engine same as SR)
Been running fine till tonight when it just died and now flatly refuses to tick over, will fire up and rev fine and will also drive with no loss of power but quite a bad misfire low down in the revs, rotor arm looks like it has seen batter days and the metal contact is almost flat to the plastic of the arm itself.
Coolant level is fine and is holding temp/heat no problems, no oily mayo in the cam box and oil level seems fine!
Any suggestions anyone is its confuddled me greatly, could it just be a goosed rotor arm thats caused this, please help guys and gals...
Cheers in advance:thumb:

If its carbed it will be a C14NV.
Is there two or 3 bolts holding the airbox on to the throttle body?
Three bolts, its a 1.4SR engine bud!
*edit* Total Vaux's listings say 14NZ

C14NZ is the SPi engine. TV is wrong in a few parts unfortunately.
Fair play well its a 1400 SR carb engine, im thinking along the lines of changing the rotor arm, plugs and leads tomorrow but was wondering if anyone else could shed any light on it as its really confused me!
er, the sr 1.4 is the 14nv, no c as theres no cat. spud, its got the pierburg 2e3 yeah? the auto choke has died like my dads cav did....

bin it for a weber
Na all of the ones ive had the auto choke has nobbed off, it starts and drives but just wont tick over!
And i never said anything about a C but it dont matter what the code is its a 1400 carb with a twin choke pierburg 2e3!
pop round sometime ill have a looksee matey, its easier than guessing at it.

Probably will tomorrow if it starts up damn thing what a pain in the a$$
not having much luck eh? dont worry we'll sort it. im in from 12.30 so there may be a sarnie fer ya!
Where you at in morning ya gheyer and if ya got bacon sarnys on the go im soooo there:thumb:
Im thinking plugs/leads/rotor arm swap while were there aswell, cant hurt can it!
Driving along, came up to a junction and it cut out as soon as i put the clutch in, fired it back up again and as soon as i let off the throttle it just cuts out.
It will fire up rev and drive no problem and it you give it some squirts it goes fine just will not idle!
i sense **** in the carb idle jets. where ya getting bits from, roadrunner? ive gotta go to my sis's at 11, ill be back at 12.30ish, and ill bang the bacon on. oil and filter?
Thats what my mate said aswell, but its got a full tank so cant have stirred up any crap unless thats occured due to it being slammed now and very bouncy so couldve shaken some crap up, i gave it a bit of a kicking in first and it stayed ticking over fine then returned to dying again pretty soon afterwards:cry:
hmm well, i have carb cleaner so we can see.
Well give me a yell and ill try and get round tomorrow bud cheers:thumb:
Right just been out this morning to see what she does and double checked the oil level is spot on and still pretty clean, the water is clear as a bell and at the correct level also.
Started her up and the auto choke still works and she ticks over fine until you give her a few blips and she drops down struggles to idle then just cuts out so im hoping this should just be crap blocking the idle jet in the carb does this sound about right peeps?
No wee vaccum pipes missing or anything?
I used to have this prob with a 1300 and 1600 carb but it only happened the odd time!
Do you have an inline fuel filter? Theres also a small one inside the carb iirc?
The rotor arm wouldn't be a bad move, like you say its fudged!
All vac pipes look present and correct and its not got an inline filter and tbh i wouldnt want to fit one as had bad problems with a couple of them before, going to do rotor arm plugs and leads and me and sloth are gonna strip and clean the carb this aft, im fairly certain its going to be a blocked idle jet or at least im hoping it will be!
if it was idle jets then i dont think it would idle to start with. possibly sticky advance mech in the dizzy??
Well after a full afternoon attacking this problem it still aint sorted, its had new plugs leads rotor arm and dizzy cap all to no avail.
Had the carb off and in bit which was full of sand, and still nothing so i took it to my mates garage and he had a good long play with it and is thinking its a carb problem (i.e. its fudged) as no matter what he did with the mixture or idle screws it just dumps the same amount of fuel into it and it runs like crap so im gonna try a spare my mate has tomorrow on it.
Wish me luck please guys i want to cry im so annoyed!
How could i check for the advance mech in the dizzy luke, or would it be a swap the dizzy to find out?
wahey, tis fixed! secondhand carb fitted, and smooth as a babys ar$e! win!
Aye fingers crossed it was the carb was fudged and its ticking quite happily now so hopefully its cured now:thumb:
