Mine was welded to the shell where it was touching/very close. Here's some pics if it's of interest:

sometimes dont help much i saw a vid on u tube a mk2 escort with cage hit a tree roof first. driver and co driver both died
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRIA5_KyWs4
Just to let you guys know, the driver was not injured in this accident, but the co-driver was. Im not sure of the drivers name, but the co-driver was Ellis Hansman. The accident was in Finland in 1992, and the car did have a roll cage. Unfortunately, the cage did not provide suffitient enough coverage, and that is why we in the WRC have strict rules for protection now days. RIP.

in that vid that escort hasnt exactly got a suitable cage. from what you can see through the windows it looks like a boggo 6 point

There not just holes drilled in the steel, the inside edges of the holes are flared to give the steel extra strenght if im correct lol

L14MNP

Aye they're flared, do it with the rounded end on a hammer lol

go proper or go home lol

Yes & no. The holes are there to reduce weight of the metal plate. Where as a plate with a series of holes that are not flared still has its lateral strenght, BUT will twist really easy. The flares increase the linear strenght of said plate with regards to a twisting force. (If that makes any sense?)

Yeah, just like a crease in a panel increases it's strength.

Did you find any for Burgo prices then Mike?
