i dont believe that, although i was in a 1989 Hr reg car doing 155mph the other night

can you imagine the rattle that thing would make if it ever got to 170?

I didn't think digi dashes went that high, so how can he know :tard:

It might have the power to get to 170mph but I doubt the body kit would last last long at tose speeds and with 18's... Who knows

TBH if he says he's done that kind of speed in it i wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!

tbh the car looks ****, but i wish he would write all my ebay auctions like that, it might be the best description i have ever read.

think he needs to be a english teacher or something, because he cant design cars for sho

He'll need to sort his spelling and repetitiveness first!!!

If he hadnt erm 'enhanced' the aerodynamics it would probably have been good for about 160mph. I know R1CH on here had a proven speed in his of around 165mph IIRC.

i know of a nova that does not far off that with the roof down lol

imo that particular nova wouldnt but that engine could

i agree with burgo, the lumps capable, if its to that spec, but the shell needs burning....

So we agree it could be a good car if the right person bought it and shall we say . . . Made it look a damn site better?

Its simply not possible with the f28, the gear ratios of the f28 (albeit using 195 50 15s) would give only 147mph at 6000 and 171mph at 7000 revs, and thats if there is no rolling OR wind resitance. So unless hes got it to rev to 7k in 6th its not gonna get to more than 160.
Even the twin engine Boost beast 'only' manged 180mph and thats with over double the power.

What is most plausebale is the the oversize wheels combined with the inaccurate digi dash has meant the displayed topspeed was 170, however in real live it would be close to 10% under that - 153 is lot more realistic.

My speedo indicates 155 when my GPS registers a 140mph.

according to stu's calculator on 18's at 7000 rpm it would do 195mph

I repeat, R1CH on here had a proven speed of somewhere in the region of 165mph. Think it was in a mag feature where they ran various novas up a runway.

EDIT 160mph have a read down this thread, it has a pic of the print out and a pic of the speedo right off the clock

what a load of horse sh1t, looks like the one off of britains worst drivers what as i recall got blown up lol, maybe someone should do that to it!!! and 170mph in a nova!!! for god sake even a calibra with the drag co efficency lower than a ferrari F40 couldnt do that!!! what a ****!!!

anyway anyone gonna buy it??? lol

18 inch wheels would make the speedo over read anyway, no??

I'm shocked that there are no questions about this lol

Repeat as often as you like, its two different cars so any proven speed is largely irelevant, its only a comparison. As far as speed/BHP goes the difference between 160mph and 170mph could be as as much as the difference between 100 and 140.

ie:
Factory speeds (GM)

Nova 1.2i 45bhp - 89mph = 1.97mph per Bhp
Nova 1.4SRi 82BHP- 109mph = 1.3mph per bhp
Nova 1.6GSi 100HP- 118mph = 1.18mph per bhp

Nova 2.0 16v -160bhp - 140mph =0.87mph per bhp
(above figures proven)
Nova 2.0 turbo - (I assume R1ch was running around 300hp?) 160 = 0.53 mph per bhp

therefore:

http://www.loggyboy.com/images/NovaTopSpeed.gif

So its quite clear that each time you want to increase the speed, the BHP will need to increase exponentially.

Im not saying 170mph ist possible, but IMO youd need close to 450-500hp and a custom gearbox/ratios.

ive heard that the digi dashs are supposed to be pretty spot on. i was in my mates standard mk2 astra gte hitting the limiter in 5th reading 147mph. surely it wouldnt take double the power to push a nova 20 more mph than that

loggyboy
27-02-09, 12:26 AM
Digi dash accuracy is overated, they can only be as accurate as the speed sensor and the tyres sizes allow. They are only slightly less inaccuate than analogue dials as they have less mechanical parts to wear and fall out of calibration.
Even when they were in factory cars they will have only been calibrated to have over read between 0and 10%.

Your friends GTE will have only been able to hit just over 140 before running out of gears/revs and thats only when the car has no resistance against it.

wouldnt the bigger wheels alter the gearing?

burgo

wouldnt the bigger wheels alter the gearing?yes ive already said using stus calculator that with 18's and a 7000rpm limit the gearing gives a theroretical 195mph
