Right, if i take a car for an MOT

Am i to expect a bill for £126?

All i asked for was an MOT test.

What i didnt ask for was for them to replace a side repeater bulb and wiperblades.

Is this legal for them to do this and expect payment?

I wouldn't think so, they must get the go ahead to carry out remedial work.

£25 labour for bulb and blades?

They should call you first to confirm its ok to do the work. They are at fault but since you have already paid the bill not sure theres anything you can do. Only thing to do is go back and complain

i would go back to them and demand your money back and as to speak to the manager, they shouldnt of carried out any work without getting you permission first. so you are within your rights to get a full refund and keep the wiperblades and indicator bulb.

Was this a dealership or an independant garage?

Sounds like they are a bunch of cowboys and have taken advantage of the fact that your misses picked up the car (no offence to your misses..it is a known fact that some garages rip off women! And the odd male!)

I would go back and question the bill. Seems abit steep IMO for a set of blades and a bulb. And yes, i was alwys under the impression that they had to get the ok to do the work first.

Theres probably not much you can do in terms of it now.

But I would try never the less?

Exactly that.

Might be worth a quick visit to the local CAB office, or get in touch with trading standards to see where you stand. The fact she willing paid without question goes against you though :(

did they only charge you for a mot test? + repairs
did they fail it, and retest it, if so did they charge you a retest fee?

most places will give you a free retest if they do the repair work,
but if you take it away and repair it your self or go to another garage
when you go back to them (for the retest) they will charge you a part test fee or another full mot test fee.

so if you go back they could say that.
"if they had failed it they would have charged you a full
test fee again for retest" another £40 or £50

but which ever way you look at it, they should have asked for the go ahead to repair it first.
and its still abit high for wiper blades and a bulb

they cannot carry out work without a go-ahead and 36.00!!!!
can get genuine ones from vauxhall for 12.00
i am constantly on the phone explaining problems and having to ask if they would like it done with a rough price etc

personaly i would go down there first thing in the morning before they open and wait for the gits to show up and ask for a full breakdown of costs! they should have given you at the very least an estimate of the cost before even thinking about replacing parts! it sounds to me that they have stung you for labour and retest imo, f***ers

I think that they will argue that your missus accepted the work, because she paid for it.

I think that legally you are stuffed.....

ps. did you not check the lights & wipers before taking it in??? or did they change good items???

most places have a minimal labour charge so i wouldent say they stung him but to the fact the work got carried out without concent this is wrong

yes thats what i,m getting at though! i,m sure they need the keepers consent to perform any kind of work? i may be wrong though!
every time i have mot'd a car (10+) they contact me if any problems are present and ask me if i would like them to carry out the work or collect the car and fix any fails myself

oh iirc side repeter bulbs and wipers dont need a full retest?

if we know the customer at our garage and small items such as bulbs and blades are required we go ahead as they shouldnt cost much, but for the price you've been givin is rediculous.

its a shame the bill has been paid already.i'd go and query the bill.

Slightly flawed argument, how did they know that his mrs would pick the car up? Did they quickly run outside slap some wipers and bulb in when they saw a woman coming to collect the car? Even if she took it in it dosent mean she will pick it up.

£36 for wiper blades LMFAO

The fact she has paid it without contest may leave it hard to claim back. Best thing to do would to speak to them, deamnding reasoable charges for blades and labour get a good £40 knocked off, but if they argue, theaten to call local paper.. bad publicity for a local company will be a nightmare for them.

My missus took her Fiesta in for a knocking noise, turned out to be the exhaust which we assumed would be warranty (car was less than 2yrs old) but exahust is only covered for a year, they said £50 to repair i said no way, they said ok, dont worry, we've done it already! Dicks!
