I found this site only a couple of months ago, and find it very usefull.
Some really nice motors out there, especially as these cars are getting older and older each year!

Does anyone else have any RALLY novas out there? It would be good to see them on here? Just a thought.

I want to upload a pic of mine, but unsure how to do that. Can anyone help?

They're are several track Nova going about, not many rally Novas that I know of.

Here's a link on how to upload pics:

I've pretty much finished building mine, just need to give it a "light" test.

And by the user name i would hazard a guess that you would be the nutter who goes by the name of Julian? lol, Any pics of the motor? Nice win at Wyedean btw!

A pic of the engine bay, soon after it came back from JRE's.
It just needed the strut brace fitted, and the oil recirculation tank etc.

I should have our website up and running this week, I will add it to the bottom of my profile when done, you can take a look at the spec there.

Its taken a long time to get it to where it is now mind, awesome fun competing in it.

Very, very, very nice.

Seen you go on YouTube: car is obviously extremely well sorted, and you drive it very well too bud :thumb:

Got two rally Nova's: I cut my teeth on the BTRDA in a Group N GSI in 1994/95. Cracking series. This is Quinton '95 I think

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Ollly/scan0002.jpg

Still got the car :)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Ollly/NewCamera022.jpg

And just bought a period "old skool" 1300 Group A Sport, for tucking away in the garage. Will get up some pics.

Still get the hankering for getting back into the woods with you lot. Been looking longingly at this one, but I'm older, fatter and blinder these days...

What are your plans for this year?

Nova VXR190
25-02-09, 03:34 PM
Ah, the good old days, that Nova looks well sorted, nice to see a more original 1.6 gte competing, you don't see too many about nowadays.
Nice one.

Get yourself back out there!! Its such a good craic still, very very friendly bunch. The 1400's are still quite popoular due to running at the front of the field on BTRDA rallies, if your in your 1600, you would be near the back and you end up beating hell out of the cars.

There will be a rally school somewhere near you, then you have to ring the msa up and apply for a license, you have to sit a bit of a exam for this and also have a driving test iirc:thumb:

Nice to see you using the forum - be good to get some technical feedback on what works on rally nova's and what doesn't

Seen plenty of your video's on youtube - keep them coming

As Chris, said really, Join your nearest motor club and they will assist. Go to a rallyschool to make sure you like it and if you catch the bug..... you will!!!
Then apply to the msa for a licence, you will need to sit whats called a BARS test through a rally school, a bit of practical stuff and theory test, behind the msa blue book regulations etc. Nothing too technical to worry about.
It wouldn't harm you at all to do a few 12 cars through your motor club to see if you like navigation or driving.

Any other help, let me know.

I've been meaning to ask this for a long time now, what does a 12car consist of? apart from 12 cars lol

Can you use a rally car or does it have to be a road car like a scatter rally??

Is the RWD corsa XE powered and would it be the same one that I've seen at Abingdon a few times :wtf:

Yes road cars can be used, or road rally style cars also.
Like a scatter but if the organisers find some v. rural twisty roads then averaging 30mph is pretty tough, especially when you have to note code boards/signs etc. Damn good fun, last one cost us a fiver plus fuel, oh and I drove in my works Zafira!!!

As to the Corsa RWD, yes its a 2.0 JRE (250bhp) the one used at Abingdon, driven by my Father, and sometimes crashed by me!!!

Amazing looking car, I'm very very impressed by that!

One thing i want to ask, whats the idea with the side skirts?

Scott

Nova VXR190
25-02-09, 08:06 PM
No Scott, purely to help save the car from gravel rash!!!

The sides get trashed by the gravel, even with mudflaps fitted. They were kevlar jobs, but only lasted about 3 gravel events, so we lned them with ali to make them last a little bit longer - at £170+vat for a pair. ouch!

scott.parker

 How stupid do i look now..

Makes perfect sense now!
good idea, as you say without them the car would get stone blasted to hell.

Cheers for the quick reply.

As others have a said -welcome. Well done with your very creditable recent result in the Wyedean. A few of us off here try to get to see it most years and we are always rooting for the novas. I didn't get to go this year but who would have thought 2 snow events in 3 years? So much for global warming!

Great car and great driving - keep on posting up those pics:thumb:

Hi, the attension to detail on your car is amazing. Ive seen you can competing on single venue specail stage rallies over the last few years and could not belived the raw speed of you and the car.
I have a 1300 Nova rally car and was competing on the Bovington stages at the weekend, one of the three Novas completing the event! My car was number 73. I would upload some pictures, but I must post 15 posts before i can upload photos!?!

not too sure it would, but he's only done that as the rear bumpers act like an air dam, thats why some other members have drilled them with hole saw's, or made rear splitters.

I love those Nova Mk1 pics, so sad that one was scrapped!!

Those Snowman rally ones are really good, love the GTE orange one. Whats the spec of the white one, looks gd.

As to the rear bumper, I cut it out due to the stones and gravel just destroyed the inside causing cracks in the paint on the outside. as well as it being a air dam as already said.
It would look loads better if I didn't have the wheel well, but wanted to keep that as with the spare wheel in it it keeps the centre of gravity low and makes the rear end a bit more rigid.

Car 73 at bovington, I think I saw you, although we were quite busy helping the old chap on his Corsa. Were you the red one - being pushed into service??? hope it wasn't too serious?

cheers, Julian.

Hi, no mine was the other nova with the Mk 1 front. The other car was 84, he blew the engine up, oil and water mixing. The cars are almost idenital from the outside.
I really enjoyed the day, it was my first rally in 18 months. In the end i finished third in class, took me afew stages to match the time of the Ka that finished second.

Its nothing like the spec of yours, its got a Peter Maider 1300 8 valve engine running 130 Bhp on the dyno, with an F10 Sccr quaife box.

Ile post some pictures once my posts are over 15!

Some latest pics of the 1300, haven't done much to it really, been busy.

Will be going for a paint job soon, then it's a stripdown and re-prep and should be out doing an event or two next year.

On the lookout for some Pilbeam fabricted front suspension, maybe a Quaife gear linkage and lever and some more Group A 5.5x13 RFX's if anyone has any?

Our first nova rally car at curborough on a total vauxhall day, beautiful piece of left foot braking at 23 seconds!!

We thought we had sheared another driveshaft when it rattled to a stop, on further investigation it had actually fired the input shaft out through the side of the gearbox!!

Had this car for 9 years, did a couple of seasons of hillclimb and sprints before coverting to rally car. I've steadily improved it when funds have allowed.

1400 8V 115 rampant horses. Not the quickest but its reliable. (Crap!-Touch wood)

Currently leading class in North of England Tarmac Rally Championship and 9th OA. Last round 25th Oct at Cheviot Stages, Otterburn.

First pic: Howford Hydraulic Stages, Ingliston, Edinburgh - won class

I live in Whitehaven, Cumbria.

It unfortunatly doesn't look so good at the moment, managed to have two 'offs' on the Pendragon. Getting two wings, front panel and OS rear quarter panel. Gonna have to get my finger out, doing Cheviot in a fortnight !!
