Yes more than likely
It will want rolling road tune to set it up.

will it be able to run on the 1.3 carb for a while so i can get it to the rolling road?

It should do yes but dont expect it to be at peak performance lol I presume you will be using a 32/34 rather than a pierburg btw
It will want properly adjusting to run well.Where are you?

im based in the southeast, its my first nova and iv only just had it bout a week, was using my 1984 XR2 Fez as a daily driver at uni but after alot of jelous scum vandalising it every evening i need something a lil bit more subtle but just as retro. which means i want it to be a street sleeper hence the mods :-D i will look at the 32/34, its the TDLM right? excuse my newbie-ism.

DTML.You should have one on your XR2,or was it just the XR3's and the MK2 XR2's???
They arent expensive and are far far better than the standard pierburg.
All you need is the carb and an adapter base plate. If you ask in the wanted section somebody will have one. Also runs the same choke cable, although you will need to source a 1300 throttle cable. These are NLS from Vauxhall unfortunately.
I used a 1l cable with a solderless nipple for mine but the throttle doesnt feel brilliant so maybe would benefit from a longer cable.

The early xr2s had the DFT 32/34 (square top) carbs along with the eary XR3 escorts. the later xr2s. 1985-1989. "i think" used the either the DTML carb or TDLM one i get confused :-( hopefully its the later spec carb as they are dirt cheap rather than the dft, which are getting rare.

vandalising scum. shame about the xr2 mate, there nice wagons.
good to see your keeping it retro :thumb:
that square top carb u speak of, is that the one with the curved rectangular black plate at the top that draws open as the throttle opens up ? got a distinct induction rasp to it.

edit : whereabouts you based in bucks btw ? ive got a 2e carb from a 1.4, could do a possible swap.

do 1.6 cams have a fuel pump lobe??

i guess a carb model will, mpi prob not.
but what im thinkin, with the 1.2 head on the 1.4 block, the pistons are gonna be alot closer to the valves, then your gonna wack a 1.6 cam in it, the valves are gonna get pushed out even further ! possible combination for a self destructing engine. might be best of with a slightly lower cam, 1.4 ?

youll need a 1.3 inlet manifold to mate the 1.2 head to the carb aswel.
and quite possibly the ignition setup from whatever car u pinch the cam from.

let me know how u get on, always interested in these custom small block builds

there is no 1.6 carb which is my point. the 1.4 sr cam is better than the 1.6 cams anyway

thats indeed the dft indeed! got to love it but unreliable in the winter months. :-D im in chesham/amersham lil village around there. arnt the clearances the same between the valves and pistons both in the 1.2 and 1.4. im using the 1.2 head to give a higher compresion. im not going ruit of 1.3rods and pistons to make a 1.4. to much hassle and money. good point bout the 1.6 cam i will have to check if it has the fuel pump lobe, if not ill just get a cheap fuel pump. i thort the 1.6 cam gave more lift (bout 2mm) thats why im going for it. yer forgot id need the ignition setup :S. what power figures do you recon i will get?

(1.2head,1.4block, 1.6cam, GTE exhaust system with manifold, 1.3 inlet manifold with DTLM carb)

will it be able to run on the 1.3 carb for a while so i can get it to the rolling road?

waste of money to take on that carb might as well bolt on a 32/34 then have it set up, not the other way round!

that like me taking my old skyline for a rolling road on std injectors then when get home putting the 750cc in.
