as in title really, quite fancy a summer project, will have upto grand for engine. was thinking port polish, skim, cam (which), twin 40's? rebuild? nos?

will be mainly for road use and pos a run on the track. quite reliable if pos too. (dont want much). what bhp will be looking at?

B+ head (from Ivorl Searle new now), Kent AST2/Piper BP300 cam, T40's and a damn good setup (oh and exhaust manifold).
ARP rod bolts

Assuming the bottom end is in good nick.

Mowgli a 1600 xe would need more than that to reach 150hp? Standard one with powerbox would only make around 120hp?

russpazz, would you not need group A spec to keep with a redtop? I agree with you though that a small block would be a little different!

the amount of chavs getting a redtop corsa round my way is taking the biscuit. i just wana pass them n say haha. ive seen gte lumps with 142.5bhp. valver 150 minus 200k of consent being on the limiter =??

tbh ive had a play with a few redtop corsa's and i can easily pull away from them on a flat straight but when going up a long STEEP hill i cannot gain any distance from them.the spec of the engine is:

1650 Rebore/ Pistons,
Skimmed block face,
Flywheel lightened and faced
Full dynamic engine balance,
Blydenstien b+ head
helix paddle clutch and cover
kent ast2 cam
twin forties
1.4 sr dizzy/coil
btb exhaust manifold
Facet redtop fuel pump
filter king regulator

but my original plan was going to be a 1600 16v and if i do build another one that is the route i will be going.A set of high lift cams, pocketed pistons, powerbox, decent manifold and a set of ARP bolts(to cope with the revs and for the security!)should see 140ish bhp and still have the scope to improve with throttle bodies and aftermarket management etc

Ive never seen a valver run on the rollers make less than 145 bhp. No matter what its mileage, they seem to age VERY well.
A 145hp valver will be quicker than a 145hp 1.6 8v

you know the corsa round the corner from my house that blue one?lol :p

lol ...i have raced 3 redtop corsa's and on all three occasion's easily pulled away from them.i know the owners of 2 of them and they are standard bar an aftermarket exhaust system, powercap and a cone filter......remember a nova is 100kg lighter than a corsa:plol

if i had a grand and wanted to stay small block then i would get a 1.6 16v. engine only costs £50 then you've got £950 to spend.

set of cams - £300
pocket deepening - £20
rod bolts - £50
megasquirt - £300
bike TB's - £100
then with the rest new plugs, leads, gaskets, fluids and that shizzle

defo babyvalver for 1k

if u had uner £500 then bigblock, but over that id go for well tuned 1.4 or 1.6
( like the cheap tax for 1.4s)
