Ok, I have a GA-7N400E motherboard; Athlon XP 2400 Thoroughbred @2Ghz; 1.5Gb 266Mhz RAM (1x 1Gb, 2x 256Mb). FSB currently running at 266Mhz.
I want to speed things up a little by taking advantage of the motherboard's 400Mhz FSB speed, so looking to get an Athlon XP 3200 Barton and some 400Mhz RAM.
The motherboard has 4 slots for RAM and supports a max of 3Gb and 6 ranks.
However. When looking at the Kingston configurator, it says using 266 or 333Mhz RAM, I can have 3Gb. But if I use 400Mhz RAM, I can only have 1.5Gb.
Why can I only have half as much RAM with the higher speed? Pretty sure Kingston do a compatible 1Gb 400Mhz module, so its not a rank limitation...
