View Full Version : Salvageable???
I've been 'de-rusting' my car and have fianlly come to doing the arches, as theres no more rust I can reach at the moment, so I've been having a little look around and more and more, what used to be metal, kept falling off, and now it looks like this:

As you chaps are mostly experts with rust, I thought I'd ask you, what you thought, i'm having work done on my sills too,

And it has side damage as its a Cat-D,

Bin it mate, if it was a nova sport or an astra GTE champion etc then that's a different story, have those inner arches been hacked at or is that the way it's sitting? That's by far the most rotten inner arch I've seen bud. Maybe post up some pics of the general exterior to help others judge.
Has it been parked in a lake ?

Haha, quite possibly,
big Chap, yes I've had a bit of a go at them, but none of its solid at all, its like sponge, then when you press that little bit too much, the screwdriver goes straight through

Yeh but would you bother, or find another one and save yourself feck knows how many hours and how much money?
Theres no really that much there, but it will get bigger when you start grinding to find clean metal, that and the dent in the side make it not really worth it. But can you find another nice non rusty one?

anything is salvageable - but it all depends on how much work you want to put in - me personally would strip it fo anything to sell and scrap it as said before theres much cleaner ones out there - plus even if you did all that work to it its still a write off so worth less

yeh man, gonna cost u a fair bit all that (even if you were doing it yourself).
what i'd reccomend is.. rip anything off it thats worth of value to either keep or flog on ebay, and weight the shell in for £30 or so.
then buy AW06's white 5 door nova (as soon as the mot's done) for £300 to get u back on the road. :thumb:
Thanks for the offer Burgo, I'll bear that in mind,
I've got a Vectra as a runaround so won't be buying W06's NOva, though I was tempted by this...

I used to have a Nova and will have 1 as my next project, which could be sooner than I originally thought

If you have a welder already, then fix it yourself. It will be good practice if nothing else, a really rusty car is a great way to get welding skills honed. No need to buy expensive panels, just use random metal you can find lying about, I've used old PC cases and all sorts before!

everything is salvageable just depends on how much you want to spend on it and how good you are with metal! if was me tho i'd scrap it and buy another one for £400-700!
