Looks like a Datsun Sunny 120Y originally, my dad had one years back and it looked just like that with proper wing mirrors too, class pictures ade as per usual from your good self:thumb:

as mentioned its a canon 40D - I was using a sima 70-300 APO lens and a canon 55-250IS lens.

It was only my 2nd real attempt at panning shots (last attempt was at PV08 on the strip last year). I'm amazed they came out I was shaking so much with the cold!

Was doing some research into lenses on Talk Photography and they both get excellent reviews. Which do you prefer? Do you feel the extra 50mm is a bonus on the Sigma or is 55-250is usually enough (I looked at the EXIF and on most of those you're around the 130mm mark)? I want a new lens for motorsport photography as the kit lens is very limited unless I'm fortunate/brave enough to be right next to the track, then it makes panning harder!

Cheers, Oli.

I've got the same kit, the extra 50mm isn't really worth it, and the 55-250IS has better autofocus performance. I'll post up some comparison pics tonight/tomorrow if you like, to see how they both perform at their maximum focal length?

did you get any pics of a blue mk1 escort that was not on the track. it had blue bucket seats and lotus rims with 4 big spotlights on it.

I didnt unfortunately - didnt spend much time in the pit area - more around the track.

Lens wise we were quite close to the track so I didnt actually need that long a zoom. I think I stuck to the Sigma one mainly, just incase I needed the extra reach.

The "IS" on the Canon is superb however I did read that it's not that good on panning shots and they actually recommend you deactivate it - this is because the stabalisation system tried to over compensate when you pan and actually introduces shake!

Both lenses have their pluses and minuses but I think for events like this I'd use the Sigma for track and the Canon for set pieces...

Well lets hope I get along with the 55-250 IS and panning, seeing as though it arrived in the post this morning! :D

Sexy, now you just need to get the right (ET60) hood and take that UV filter off :p.

They both came with the lens (2nd hand) and I agree the petal hood needs to go!
