righty my girlfriends dad been caught drink driving today, two times over the limit. what can he expect in terms of fine/ban? hes hoping they will take his wifes circumstances into account as shes ill in hospital, likely? and before anyone says it, im not sticking up for him, its a stupid thing to do and i hope they throw the book at him tbh, never got on with him and i hope he learns now he does it a lot.

if he's never been done before, then a year is the norm.... if he has been done before, then it is about 3yrs.

he won't get an easy ride with the wife in hospital thing, because he was irresponsible enough to get pissed then drive, & he is already trying to work out if he can worm his way out of it. his only hope is that the rozzers made a mess of the paperwork, which if he isn't a legal eagle will be difficult.

BrainsNova You do get to keep your licence if you get caught drink driving,

You just sit the ban out and then reapply for your licence back.

im nearly 100% sure if you are banned from driving for any charge you dont get to keep your licence you have to reset a 2 hour long test

I got banned for 18 months after blowing 3 times over the limit! its just a straight ban then you get your licence back! it should be a year for him if its first time!!

^^^I dont think he was boasting there tbh bud merely offering up his experience, iirc its a minimum 12 month ban for being over the limit and it increases in increments of six months as to how far over the limit you are!

I love threads like this as it brings out all the keyboard angels who have never put a foot worng in their lives ever!

Its not your place to be insulting anyone by calling them a tool or such, yes drink driving is frowned upon by society and yes it is an extremely selfish thing to do and is unbelievably dangerous to others aswell as the driver.

But nine out of ten times its just a normal person who has made a stupid decision because they have had too much to drink, how many times have you text an ex or a friend something really stupid whilst drunk then woken up the next day to think oh bugger why did i do that, tis a similar thing a bad decision based on the fact you have had a lot of dutch courage.
My rents go out once a month and im the taxi driver for them and most weeks my dad will say on the way home "i can sort of understand drink drivers as i actually feel quite capable of driving right now" he never would because he doesnt get so drunk as to lose his rational thought but if even he could feel like that after a few, would he do it if wrecked, possibly!

Im sure if there was a poll on here to find out exactly how many of us have actually done it then some of you would be rather shocked!

And yes i have done it in my younger and stupid days, its not something im proud of and believe me im not showing off about it either and given the chance i would go back and not do it but we all make silly decisions though.

Sorry about the rant it just annoys me the way people instantly judge you and slate you as soon as you mention d/d!

I wasnt suggesting that we actually had said poll Bod was merely a term to make a point as tbh it would spark off a massive rant/discussion which would bring out all of the keyboard warriors and result in it being locked or deleted by admin.

Plus it wouldnt look good to certian people who were keeping an eye on the site either!

Anyone daft enough to do it deserves a ban, surely got can't need a drink that badly you'd risk your license for it.

talking about drink driving... ive conciously decided to go for it 'once' (back when i was 18 and didnt know any better)
i was way over the limit, prety fcuking smashed and managed to drive the car about 5 miles back home, and i distinctly remember going down the bypass zig-zagging hard between both lanes, and i looked down at the clocks to expect to see 150 mph, even tho my car could only do 100, and i was doing 15 ! .. since then i was like "no .. hell no.. never again" and aint since :thumb:

woke up in the morning and came outside to find my car ON the driveway, but prety piss poorly parked lol

like i said, 3rd drink driving prosecution so they had to go hard on him. apparently he only got a suspended sentence as he has started going to aa meetings, otherwise he would be inside for 4 months.

i was about to say, jesus that harsh!! ..until i read it was his 3rd
i was twice over the limit when i got caught couple year back, 16 month ban and 150 pound fine and the chance to do the ttc drinking awareness course which gets you 25% off your ban,and got me down to 12 month.
its a very stupid thing to do, which i completely regret, i was maybe in the middle of nowhere,at 4am where the chance of seein a pedestrian is slim.but there is still no excuse for it.
if anyone does get caught drink driving and the chance to do the ttc course, do it,it really helps you see just how easy it is to be over the limit.

tbh he should have been jailed. i lost 2 good mates to a guy 3 times over the limit, theres no excuse.

its a shame they cant do him for attempted manslaughter. he would kill anyone he hit. ffs, call a taxi or something....
