basicly i have just brought a let bottom end that had started developing a knock after just over 3k.
the engine was rebuilt with all brand new parts steel rods arp's ect but then used sealant to fit the sump:confused:

as usual hes used too much got cloged in the oil pickup pipe and knackered a big end

the only problem is that the rod that the big end is nackered in has taken so much heat its turned blue! theres no obvious signs of damage to the jernals ect but does anybody know what sort of effect this much heat may have on that rod?

the thing is im going to be aiming for over the 350bhp mark and i dont want to build it up using this rod if it may have been weakened due to the heat?

anybody got any jen on this?

also arp rod bolts does anybody know torque settings for them on second use?

cheers steve

IMHO i would be getting a new rod to replace that one.

ARP's you torque to the same torque as you did at first use. You are however meant to measure them and compare the length of them to before they were first used to see if they are within tolerance.

However i would be wary of those ones as it sounds like they have been exposed to a lot of heat. I would just fit new ones on the other 3 rods.
