hello i have a standard grey mk 2 dash fitted in my car and ive got a black gsi one that i want to fit.
Is it a hard job to do ? or is it just time consuming.
thanks
haynes manual is your friend, its a straight swap but if youve never removed one there a few hidden screws about
Straight swap, mk2 for mk2. Take all the cowling off (6 star screws, philips screw behind the headlamp switch - see haynes for how to remove - and one behind the passenger side middle vent - just twist and pull this out). Remove two screws either end of the dash. One bolt at the base of the dash on the exhaust tunnel. Unclip heater cables from the control rods. Remove the dials (three visible screws, tip to one side, pull out speedo cable, unclip loom). Remove glovebox (3 bolts at the top, two underneath, one at the side iirc). Remove underdash trays (screw at each end..?). Pull off the vent ducting behind the dash. Remove dash.
Refitting is reverse sequence to removal lol

I did mine in a day. Exactly the same swap.
Not a hard job at all.
Just take your time and if something wont budge, chances are youve missed a bolt/screw.

cheers mate il get on to it then. thanks draper and razor jack for your comments.
Like for like should be doable in a few hours. Lee and moi did my swap in half a day, from Mk1 to Mk2 and that included all the wiring changes.
[edit] when I say included all the wiring changes, I mean we scoured the Haynes manual to make sure it was all done properly. Hence how I now have a guide for it lol
hey, as someone said, if something is not budging then you has missed a screw.
the only hard bit might be getting the left air vent out to get to the screw.
and the two silver nuts on the inside of the dash, one right behind the clocks. and one above the glove box, you can reach and feel it with yiour hand
I sat in the 3rd car up in a pile at the scrappys and took one out in <1 hour, AND I'm a girl. So I'm sure you can get it out and another back in in <2hours if you put your mind to it.
*actual levels of femininity are debatable*
its an easy job, most difficult was the light switch imo (i killed 2 switches... and i removed my dash 2 times...)

actually second that. that is th ebiggest bitch to get out. the right blakc bit wont come off until you have the light switch out. which you have to take the dash out to get to it. liker i said. a ****ing bitch lol.

Turn the vent to face the drivers side as far as it will go. The turn it some more :D and pull it out.

easy enough saying that, but needs some brute force and if your unsure of where your pushing or pulling then you might brake it lol
