I came off ALOT worse..:( I sold the bike in its damaged state for £720 and the other bits separately

I have since been forbidden from getting a bike again. Used to race MX in my school days and had 2 hospital visits from that. The road bike one was by far the worst. And they say things happen in 3's...

What does it go like compared to the newer bikes?

Well the acceleration's wild :) have beaten a suzuki RM 125 on a 100 metre straight in the woods. I've found its more fun for mucking around doing wheels and wheel spins but on a newer bike the top speed is much better and newer bikes just have a nicer feel to them.

Hmm, I've always been half interested in getting a bike. The effort and cost of having to learn has put me off a bit though...

Plus I found out a lass I've known - and rather liked - for about 5 years is a biker now. And has leathers. *wibble* :D

brucie bonus, it's alot cheaper than a car to do a test and run it tho. i use mine everyday and it cost 12 quid to fill up and last up to 150 miles

Yeah i use a bike its only a aprilia sr125r with a few bits done to it, but can take most cars with it, does 0-60 in 8seconds ;) so it picks up very nicely for just a 125. think its the rs125 engine but not geared top end us about 75ish
could spend a few hundred like bigger car 172kit, jet, gear up kit, and a couple other bits = top end 105 lol il get a pick later

novanova636
13-02-09, 05:35 PM
nobby i saw that in the for sale section a while back. My bro used to have one very good fun. Can actualy handle a good thrashin and a nice size jump!!

Plus I'd need to hire a bike and kit from the training place to begin with, which would up the price. Bike insurance is cheaper, but most of the decent bikes I saw on ebay were ££££.

plenty of custom trick bits on this R1 brakes, custom billet yokes, polished swingarm, larger carb, straight through system, ktm duke rims laced to excel hubs, high lift cam custom stainless air intake and a black glitter powder coated frame to name but a few - definate wheely machine!!

Gotta love the little bikes, proper fun. I had a RM250 for a while, wasn't keen on the wheelying through 4 gears though, so got rid of that for a thumpstar 125, with a 140 lifan engine. Was mad fun. Think I'd like an r6, or a zzr1100, or a zx6r. lol

Ash
13-02-09, 06:34 PM
wow, bikes are a totally differant language to me lol I did fancy one for a bit, but don't trust some to the general public behind a wheel, it's bad enough when im in a car.

I thought it changed in October last year? I'm sure thats what all the blurb said...

Whats the difference between the old and new test anyway?

sulphur
13-02-09, 06:57 PM
More challenging handling tests, and a stricter theory IIRC.
Driving the bike is done in 2 stages now. Off road, and on road.
Off road is :
At least two manoeuvres carried out at slow speed, including a slalom
At least two manoeuvres carried out at higher speed, of which one exercise should be in second or third gear, at a speed of at least 30 km/h (approx. 19 mph) and one exercise avoiding an obstacle at a minimum speed of 50 km/h (approx. 32 mph)
At least two braking manoeuvres, including an emergency brake at a minimum speed of 50 km/h (approx. 32 mph)Also gotta show off your handling on a right hand circuit infront of an examiner.

Stage 2 would be about 30mins driving on road, and a further 30mins testing your eyesight, alertness, hill starts etc.

Jack
13-02-09, 07:14 PM
Fcuk that then lol

kc_08
13-02-09, 07:20 PM
yeah the aprilia's are pretty good bikes, pitty all the other bikes look at me and think im on a 50cc flat out lol, but its like when i get the little scallys in there 206's trying to put me off, when i do fly off, esspecially in acceleration they dont know what to think lol, cause its stickerless aswell ;) hinking about 50cc stickers for the side lol. nah it dont up the price if you use there bikes or gear where i am, its all included, my cbt was a £120 and that was for most of the day and lasts 2years but i can only ride a 125 :(

sulphur
13-02-09, 07:28 PM
RJ, it's no different in comparison to a car driving test when you think about it. Two manouvres (reverse park, paralell park), manouvres at speed (emergency stop), Then you general driving making sure you check mirrors etc.

Local place near me, Riverview Rider Training do a DAS course, Direct Access, £350 all in and thats your bike hire, protective gear hire, lessons from 9am till 4pm every day for a week solid, and your test at the end of the week. Only need your theory before you go in for it really.
Pretty cheap when you think car lessons are £20-25 a pop now.
