Bought a 1300 engine yesterday, have the equipment but not really wanting to do the complete engine change.

Is there much difference between the 1.2 and 1.3 block, as I'd rather just fit the head, cam and carb from the 1.3 onto mine for the moment.

BTW theres a 4 branch, kend cam and vernier on the 1300 so will just transfer the whole lot accross.

The 1300 has a longer stroke but smaller bore than the 1.2, swapping what you've said should work, but you should get the carb and ignition set up again.

Yep carb and everything going from 1.3 onto 1.2. Just wanted to know where Vauxhall found the power from, whether it was from the larger capacity mainly or from the higher lift cams, head etc.

Its mainly from the exhaust, inlet manifold, carb and cam. The heads are almost exactly the same.

Sounds good, so I wont see much difference by fitting the 1.3 block too then.

Going to do some work on the head, good service and hopefully a strong 1.2 engine out of it.

if youve got the whole engine its so much quicker and easier to just bolt it straight in

Just give the 1.3 a good paint and clean up and what other mod's you want to do and just swap the lot

It'll take you an hour or two, not a day lol.

As dan said. For my bro to do it start to finish took about 4-5hours, bearing in mind no crane or done it before.

thank god you are doing that!!!! you will get at least 20 more hp instantly from the 1300.

the heads are pretty much identical, but the long crank makes all the difference...

Kind of answer I was hoping for, although I wasn't sure it would be that much difference.

if you were brave, you could make a 1400 hybrid with the 1200 block & pistons, with the 1300 crank & rods. its quite a stripdown, but you'll get (with decent cam & head work) about 100hp, oh, and still have a 1200 engine number........

i busted my 1.3sr engine so i temp fitted a 1.2 and the power was very low compared to it. and i took out 1.3 and fitted the 1.2 in about 45mins :thumb:

mowgli I've known about that for a while, problem is I can imagine it would be quite a lazy engine with such a long stroke??

the 1.2 is bigger bore than the 1.3, so when you make the 1.4, it actually has a lower bore/stroke ratio & is a revvier engine.

Now thats sounding promicing.

if you are not confident to do the 1400, the 1300 will go quite well.... head, cam, twin 40s should be knocking on 120hp

Sounds good. Think I'll be going for bike carbs though. My dad's putting them on an XE very soon so should be compitent with them by the time we come round to putting on 1300.

Just on a side note, anyone know what kind of power I should be expecting from the following

Nova SR 1.3 engine, freshly serviced (plugs, oil, cam belt)
Kent AST1 cam
4 Branch Manifold
Pierburg 2E3 carb (standard one)

Cheers
