ok this is intresting me,
at the moment two verydifferent projects are going on,
mine,is restoring a 1.3 sr to standard spec,
and dan(well hes ment 2 be working),is moding his 2.0 16v
two example of two cars, that are modded
ian`s 16v,i think im fair in saying this is the nicest mod nova
http://www.novaload.net/features/viewfeature.php?ref=39
then lockys 5dr 1.2,very nice, both very differnet cars, but both modded
http://www.novaload.net/features/viewfeature.php?ref=193

then to standards cars,
chris sr
http://www.novaload.net/features/viewfeature.php?ref=259

see now i hit a problem, chris car was the only standard car,
all the others had alloys,or clear lense or some sort mod,his only has a knN
there is mine, but mine is in no stae for public veiwing.
so why do you guys MOD so much,
its kinda worring me that less and less novas are being kept standard.
i have real respect for guys like ian and lcoky who spend money on there car,but i have more respect for guys who will kept em as they were ment to be.
so ideas,why mod?

To improve on something. For example, improve the brakes by fitting 16 valve ones, or improve the looks.

However, the looks thing is going to be more individual, so that's where cars will differ the most. Which is why people say that they mod their car's to be 'different'. This is because they're trying to improve on the looks, but still try to keep them individual and not copy others.

Edited to add: to me there is no question as to why/whether to mod. It's more a case of 'why not modify?'.

In my opinion its all about being sublte and keeping your car clean. Maybe you wont attract as many looks as a mad body kitted nova's but people do appreciate them when they look close at the subtle things that have done. All mods should look like vauxhall would have done it if the nova would have been produced a few years lata. Thats what i think anyway, keep it clean keep it close to the original design and you cant go wrong. Im not putting bodykitted nova's down, i do like them but thats not my style.

I just caught the modding bug, and, well, couldnt stop! Iv gota b honest, i havent poured thousands of pounds into the car, just little mods that make it look good, plus my dad works at vx, so i get lotsa discounted parts, and is one of the first to know of ne offers!
Thanx for picking my car out as an example Ian, it is very much appreciated!
When i get my next nova, it will be left standard, or maybe just tune the engine!
If i was to buy a GSI/GTE/SR i'd leave it standard, and just keep it clean, derust most of it! I wouldnt go about bodykits or tuning, maybe a small sound system, but then thats just for better listening on long journeys!
There are a couple of reasons why i decided to modify a 5 door ----- Not many modded 5 doors about (tho they're on the increase) and secondly I fancied a challenge, I gota b honest, the 5 door is missing the all important flaired arches, i do miss that on mine, but nothing is stoppin me from cutting n shutting 3dr arches, to fit! Iv got a few extra mods on the way, hopefully u'll be able to see them at nxt years events!
Thanx for reading!
Locky!

Keep it like a Nova, afterall it is supposed to be one. If I'd wanted an RST lookalike i would have bought a Fiesta or an Escort innit (err, Fords) or any other car for that matter. I see no problem with keeping your car individual though - its all upto how mad you wanto go and how much you wanna shell out!

I took the K&N off and sold it :)

I know I've said it before but I'll say it again, vauxhall didn't do a bad job putting together the nova. of course I've got plans for my 'Dream SR' but I honestly don't know if I want to pay out ?2k+ on something that doesn't look too bad to start with.

I have added a blue stripe, but in all honesty It's got a blue interior so I thought it'd be nice to continue it ouside.

As for mechanical mods such as brakes, I know that if I had bigger brakes I could go faster, if I went much faster I'd kill myself. I've had a few moments that I can only blame upon myself.

Lets just see, I have the best Nova, becasue It's standard, who wants to challenge me?

i will argue! lol

right chris dont take offence here its only my opinion! :o

you have to remember most of our novas are over 10yrs old! ill say an average of 90 000 on the clock yea? for each car. so then do you think you cars components are good enuff to stay up with the likes of all the new cars?-no its a fact they arnt! you could say weve moded our cars with big brakes etc but in reality weve made our cars safer than a standard one-, a typical example, nova brakes std are death traps! ive never ran any of my novas on any thing less than 16v items.
suspension?- your suspension and components are dogged by 60k so why not uprate to new better handling ones?- common sence.
alloys- up to you realy there not a safety hazard, steelies are fine for every day driving (sensible)!
Ians car is kitted but its done properly thats why sum cars are yuk with kits- it hasnt been thought out- ians has been done tastefully not ott Les Smith.co.uk style.!
so ill conclude my longest ever post by saying iam modding my car but the parts im using are only to make it safe to handle the speed it can do?!

they dont make jags etc with crap brakes as they do 140mph+ so why should i drive a car capable of above that unsafely? it would be wrong of me and id be a dick to drive past my cars "safe" capabilities!

This is what almost made me bite at court when the judge said a nova isnt safe at 100mph. i felt like saying my car is probably safer to do these speeds than most new road cars as they have shite soft suspension and penny fathing tyres!
as you know ian my car is not ott the styling is what some would brand as standard thats what i like, standard, but not unsafe standard. :o

and im spent.!

I will agree you've made some good points, but I'll say this, Vauxhall spent ?10,000's designing the Nova, Researching and Developing. I think they did what they did for a reason.

It'll be intresting to see what novas are like in 20 years time!

yup vaux did spend that much but as above over 10years ago! look at the car like a pc! will a pc bought today be up with pc's in 10 yrs? nope at the rate now there out of date in 6months or less lol dam technology!
i would like a nice std nova sr tho i may get my self one in 2003! it would have to be black tho!

I'm currently surfing on a 1995 166Mhz PC, It shows that it doesn't matter how old technology is, it still gets the job done!

fuckin' novas!

Anyone would think you're on about some kinda 'exotic sports car'. Buy it. Mod it.

If you're against modifying cars, then the only reason i can think of for owning a Nova is that it's cheap, and is as far as your budget will stretch to. Otherwise you'd buy a brand new car, or as close to brand new as you can afford. And keep it standard. Or you don't even give a shit about what it is, as long as you get from A to B.

It's not like standard Nova's look fantastic, coz they don't.

I'm modifying mine because there's not as many people (who have enough money to do it) that are prepared to spend a lot of money on modifying a car, aspecially one as old as a Nova. And I'm speaking about ?10,000+. And, even though it is a lot of money, you can end up with something that is 'better' in a lot of respects than brand new cars that cost a lot more than that. And it's all the more special because it's a nova, so you won't see that many others with as much done to them. For the reason already outlined above.

I can never win this, Theres 4500 members and only 2 feel strongly about Standard Cars. I'll Go and polish my Vauxhall badge. :|

no chris i do prefere std nova in the looks department but not in the performance department just remmember its all opinions!, if thats what you want then gud and i think youd get alot of attention at a show for having a 100%mint factory nova, as id rather look at that than a nova with 2tons of filler and fibreglass glued on it! imo tho! and again a nice kitted nova is a good looker but me personaly would not like to own one!

and ian how dare you let me write a reply this long and not even read it! just think how many things you could argue with me about! lol

I prefer a nova to look standard with a nice set of rims and a bit of smoothing.

A GSI with speedline alesio's, delocked (maybe dehandled), looks real nice in my books, plus the usual mods.

This may seem wierd as I've changed everything on my car to look completly different, but thats down to my personality that mine has to look like that.

Yeh thats pucka, dunno bout the sidestrips though :s Build your car to how you want it to look, not what everyone else thinks.

IMO i don't like big ott bodykits and stuff. I do like big rims though. Thats just personal opinion though, everyone has different tastes so everyone with big bumpers and stuff i'm not having a go at you, cos if you like it, thats all that matters!
