im thinking of getting my wheels done on the E30. theyre 99% mint anyway but they dont shine as muhc as id like them to.

where in the northwest will diamond cut them? how much would i be looking at and will there be any problems in doing them? ie, would having a slight dish to the rim be a problem?

You getting the whole face or just the rim done? IMO the whole face might look abit naff.

With regards to diamond cutters, scan the yellow pages mate.

i was wanting the whole wheel doing, but not sure if it is possible with the lip. i dont know anything about how they do it by the way.

il have a look through the phonebook, was wanting a price beforehand though so i know if its cheap or not.

ALOT of E30 owners have these wheels and most of them have been diamond cut but iv never seen if they do the whole wheel or not

Thats a very nice E30. I would just get the rim edge done!!

i either want it all done or nothing, will look odd with only bits done i think. il try and find some pics of other E30s to see what theyve done

just find a pic of these polished ones:

i think they look awesome. would you think itl cost the same to polish them rather than diamond cut?

I was going to suggest a polish. Polish might be cheaper, but i wouldnt know for sure. Those wheels in the pic look smart and against your black paintwork in the summer sun...

Those chrome wheels really would suit it, don't you agree :D

IMO polished would be cheaper, and easier to maintain??

Must admit though if you don't keep on top of cleaning the polished ones, then they will eventually start to look tired. Then eventually with dirt and grime they pit really bad :(

DIY. I just cleaned up one of my Kazeras, hardest bit was not polishing it too much as I didn't want it to have a mirror finish lol

There maybe pics in Benns WIP thread on polishing. He did his Cav Turbo rims, i think??!!

I'm not a fan of polished wheels. In a carefully staged photo or with great lighting, they look absolutley amazing, but park next to something ugly, odd colours or weird shapes, and the reflections camoflage the wheel shape.

Also, aren't polished rims a bit chavvy now?

Finally, that E30 looks absolutely sexual!! love it

ye they are a bit chavvy, but its not as if my car is part of the 'new' car scene is it Lol. something as old skool as my car i think can pull chrome wheels off.

how could i do it DIY style? whats needed?

and cheers for the comments :)

Could it not be done, to an extent, with a wire brush wheel on a drill bit? The polished up to fook?

Just an idea, dunno if it'll work. :(

They do diamond cutting, and are based in Bamber bridge, so not too far from you.
Prices aint too friendly,(£300 for a set of 4) I've seen cheaper but not very local.

http://www.wheelrefurbishing.com/pricelist.htm

These are cheaper,(£180 for set of 4) but like I said not local, they're in Flaunden. About 4hrs from you. Maybe postage could be arranged for cheaper than the other place.

cheers for that, bamber bridge is only up the road :) but i was hoping itl be cheaper than that. next mission is to find £180 but local.

when i get some spare money (its all going onto the nova at the moment lol), il give a few places a ring to see whats what. in the meantime though, if anybody thinks i can do it myself, let me know

Surely you could arrange a courier to transport your wheels down to the cheaper place, and again return them to you. Should only be what, £30-40 each way? So all in it'd cost £260. Haha, less hassle going n paying £300 local.

Might be worth telling them you've had a quote for £180, and see if they could do a price match or something? Maybe you could knock 'em down, take advantage of the recession ;) :thumb:

best to buy second hand diamond cut wheels as alloys are cheap as chips.

Just found this, it's a DIY for 'uber polish' rather than you diamond cutting. It'd do until you've got the cash for the diamond cutting anyway.
Might be worth a go, hope it helps some. :thumb:

Remove wheel from car.
Mask inner surface of wheel & outside of tyre.
Coat wheel with Paint Stripper to remove the old flaking lacquer
Wash the stripped wheel with clean water then dry with clean cloth.
Rub wheel with ScotchBrite to remove all remaining traces of lacquer, brake dust etc.
Polish Wheel with Wire wool, AutoSol and Cotton Cloth until you are happy with the finish.
Cover wheel with Triple Wax Polish.
Spray Wheel Nuts with Aluminium Spray Paint and allow to dry
Replace wheel on car.

il give them a ring when i have the money to see how cheap i can get it, i think id rather have them polished rather than diamond though.

i might get a spare wheel and try and strip and polish it to see if itl work.

and no it wont be cheaper to buy some diamond cut wheels, these wheels arnt cheap and dont come up for sale everyday :)
