View Full Version : Classifieds section. EVERYONE READ
Im getting fed up with the drivel people feel the need to post in peoples classified adverts. If you think its a piece of crap, keep it to yourself. If you think the advert is dodgy, inform Admin or Moderators instead of spewing abuse across the page.
So the classifieds section is now going to be ONLY for people selling or buying. If any useless posts appear they will be removed, and repeat offenders will find themselves suffering the ban stick. We will let the odd positive comment slide, but bear in mind its not a nostalgia section!

I agree with this, it's been doing my head in for a while :thumb:
Is it worth putting under the forum rules Lee?
Read ban as "what ever number is hit from the drop down list....." 24hrs to forever :D
Was the guys MG ad the final straw? That got pretty unfairly jumped on IMO.

They do this on mig and it seems to work well. Only the post host can replu on cars for sale but parts is still open.
That used to be the case here many moons ago, and all people did was whinge they couldn't reply to threads!
I like the fact people can reply. It keeps threads fluid, and allows prospective buyers to gauge the level of interest in parts. Obviously the flip side is it needs heavy policing.
Don't forget there's the report thread button.

It's not just FS threads though.

does any other person use that apart from me lol
RJ hit the nail on the head nicely, we had ALWAYS run a no reply policy but due to massive demand and constant bitching we allowed replies back.
One thing i am running through my mind is a minimum post count before adverts can be put up, similar is done on many websites, and although i wont set it as high as some, it would maybe stop the fly by night chancers on a scam if they had to be part of the community for so long.
Thought i would make it abit more public and see if any feedback would warrant it a decent move or another wasted idea lol :thumb:

I think it is a good idea Dan:thumb:
I would agree on a limit before posting parts for sale, certain amount of posts/ activity as could stop quick scammers as you say.
For cars for sale i wouldnt recommend this, as if somone selling a nova they will come advertise here which gives members/enthusiasts the chance to see it. People selling a car wont want to be a part of the forums and post just to advertise a car.
No replies to for sale threads wouldnt work, especially with non paid members as inbox's get filled up too quick and theres no way to contact sellers
instead of number of posts couldnt we have a time limit, like a month?
On the flip side, some people come on here breaking a decent spec nova with zero posts, decent parts, decent prices, and are legit....
tbh i think a time limit would be alot harder to setup ?? alas i cannot confirm that as i am no computer geek, thats what Kev is for :thumb:
your points are valid tho and the reason i mentioned it on this thread is so everyone that wants a say can have one
There have been a few scams going on around various sites on the net (all marques) and with the current economic climate it 'could' become a more common sight. If the ruling only stopped one or two people getting scammed and loosing money then i think it would of served its purpose.
I am not a computer geek either so have no idea?
The only thing I'm thinking is someone can bang 50 posts up in a few days then scam away?
does any other person use that apart from me lol
Actually, yes. Although it does tend to be the same small group of people who use it lol
Dan, good idea on the post count. Migweb do a similar thing I believe? The only worry I can see is we have a similar thing to people spamming to be able to post pics, although we're pretty good at nipping this in the bud

On fordmondeo.org PM's are banned from use with regards to trading, so all communications are out in the public.

These lot obviously not read this?
As an addition to selling stuff...
Stop already with the "how much is this worth" sly for sale ads. If you really are dense enough to not know how much you want/need for a part, then use the search on here, google, or ebay (including the ended items search) to get a handle on the going rates. If you have a really rare part that you've never seen before, just ask for what you think is sensible but prepare to take offers.

What I'd like to see gone is the "I sold one of these last week for half that, so you're never going to get what you're asking"....
Cant stand it. Jumping on people ads and basically just trying to pee them off.
People will only pay for something what they want to pay, we dont need opinions.
A question for all the "free bump crew" who always write "nice car free bump"
or what a pile of dog muck etc"
When scouring auto trader or ebay,do you ring them or send them messages saying bollocks like that?
Thought not

^ that, IMO, is another reason why car FS ads should be locked. Only the OP can bump the ad.....

also , ban.. 'just testing the water' threads , you are either selling it or not , be a man and put a price on it , if it does not sell its too expensive, if you dont like it ... use ebay and put a reserve on it.
