Currently with BT for my broadband on an "up to 8meg" connection. I'm now moving over to Sky as it will save me a fortune!! The sky package gives me "up to 2meg" as they said they estimate my line is currently only making .5meg download speed. I've done a test on speedtest.net and it says 5604 kb/s download & 349 kb/s upload.

Anyone care to translate for me and comment? lol

Bear in mind you will never get the quoted speed, so 5.5Mb on a 8Mb line is quite good.

so what Sky have told me then is just crap to get me to sign over as it looks really cheap. They've even put it into a letter stating the estimating I'm only getting .5mb.

cheers for your replies.

is a handy site for finding out info about what services are available to you, and what your exchange can do, as well as how far you are from it - remember, distance affects speed. At home I get 1.5mb on a 2mb line, but my new home will only be a 1mb line as its further from the exchange :(
