just gauging interest first. some of you will know the car and also know that it isnt running right

firstly the problem. it overheats, im still not convinced that its the head gasket as it still ran spot on, no flat spots and never got any worse. it started when i found a leak in a hose which i fixed. tried to bleed the system and with the cap off it will run for hours with the temp stuck at half way. but when you put the cap back on itl start to bubble over a few minutes later. its either the thermostat or something else stopping it go around the system. worst case scenario would be the head is cracked and i got quoted £500-600 for a garage to fix it if that is the case. i may still end up doing this as the car is VERY nice and i would love to drive it for the summer, but if i get offered a decent amount or a decent swap i maybe tempted :)

anyway the car:

1996 328i Cab in techno violet.
FULL M3 kit - front bumper with EVO splitter, sideskirts, rear bumper with parking sensors and mirrors. all genuine, i have a reciept for the mirrors alone costing £400!
M3 replica wheels, all tyres have decent tread. iv got some 5 spoke schnitz wheels for it aswell maybe.
Toad alarm costing £1250!
Full blue leather interior with matching blue carpet and matching hood. no tears or scuffs anywhere, really good condition. the roof has been disabled to work manually, only takes a few seconds to put down and it doesnt break this way Lol.
Bodywork is also in very good condition, polishes up perfect with no scrathes or dents. the only bad bit is the drivers side wing where the previous owner had sorted out a rusty arch but needs touching up as the colour doesnt match (easily sorted for £50).
AC Schnitz (sp?) exhaust, reciept for around £700 for it
Engine bay was immaculate when i got it,the cleanest iv ever seen. obviously is a mess now as iv been working on it but will be cleaned along with the rest of the car before somebody comes to view.

MOT till november, TAX for another 3 months or so. cant remember the mileage but iirc was around 115k.

i have a massive pile of reciepts with this car. the previous owner spent a fortune on it!

car can be heard running but its needing new plugs so takes a while to start, clutch bearing also needs replacing as you can hear it whilst on idle off the clutch. even though had a brand new clutch last year.

this car fully working i would be wanting around £3.5k as is a very decent car, and espeically with summer coming up. cheaper to insure and run than an M3, but the 2.8 is still a very quick car. any offers welcome, could be a bargain for someone with a mechanical mind. any swap will also be considered

to the top! i could probably break it for around £2k so would there be any interest at that price? if not, il either strip it or fix it

The bottom rad hose has a slight incline in it thus keeping the air bubble present when flushing on flat ground. That's why it bubbles over like the HG is ****ed would be my guess.

Exactly the same thing happened to a mates E36 328 coupe.

you mean the hose maybe fcuked? theres loads of suggestions that might fix it, im still not convinced that its the head as it droves spot on when not overheated and hasnt got any worse.

he means the hose is bent in such a way that some air is remained trapped in the system.

free bump for a nice car!

ye i pm'd him, thanks. it is a nice car, i really wish i knew what was wrong cos i wouldnt want to sell it. i know its going to be something very simple, and not the head. but if somebody else wants to find out what it is and take the car off me make me an offer :)
