View Full Version : breather mod
hi folks i read a few threads as to the breather mod. i did it my nova redtop over the weekend and made a big difference stoped the kangarroing. what i did was bought the plate that goes at the end to stop the oil surging and toke the the bolts out and took of the plate cut off the part that covers the breathers and screwd that bit back on and what a difference it has made.
Wouldnt be doing anything on normal road driving, as you wont be getting oil serging there...

Depends How You Drive Benn!!!
benn its a 2lt nova and my area is all country roads so you could imagine.
Its usually a sign of a worn engine...
Excess cylinder pressure getting past the rings, forcing oil up the breathers.
As obviously they wouldn't have done it from new.... Else every cav and cally going would have a trail of blue smoke when they cornered hard/braked hard.....
It does sort the problem though :)
you didnt need to buy anything either. you can just cut the plate on the underside of the rocker cover. i cant find the pics tho

thats the one. adam it might be worth doing a quick guide as there isnt one at the mo i dont beleave. plus the one on VS now has the wrong picture
Cool, may well do that seeing as im sat here doing f**k here.
Wouldnt make it kangarro they.
Thats a common problem sorted by doing the mod....
On overrun, high vacuum means any oil in the breathe pipes will be drawn into the inlet
Never heard of it doing that. Wouldnt think stucking in trace oil would make it kangrro...
I still wouldnt do it, rather get a good lump.
Whys the let have it plumbed back to the turbo insted then?

my let doesent i have done away with all that as the turbo used to suck shed loads of oil through it
mines on a completly seperate breather set up now and i had the take of point on the turbo tig welded and blanked of it all goes through a catch tank now and breaths for its self ran much better for it aswell untill it spat a rod at 7k
