Haven't got a clue about modifying so thought I'd make a start by ripping things off instead

How do you take the side trims (apparantly stop damage when doors hit cars etc..) off? and leave a nice clean look?

Cheers!

Hi, first of all welcome 2 the site, ul get lotsa info here bout modifiying your nova!
As for the question in hand, all y need is hot water to remove the strips, the slower u peel it off the less foamy crap ul have left over under the strips, after that, use a bit of t-cut and a bit of polish.
if u have some foamy crap left over, the way i found to get it off is to get a knife, and wrap insulation tape around it, and scrape it off slowly. use more hot water to shift it a bit easier!

Thanks locky, just worried it might have been some nice damaging concreted in clips or sumet!

Don't worry I'll be back to the site quite a bit over the next few weeks - got holiday from uni and (I WILL) get loads of car mods for chrimbo. lol

New wheels finally on, with a little trimming of the arches - Went ott and bought 195/50s *ahem*.

Thx again.

if the car has been sprayed at some point watch out because it may still have the old paint job underneath the bumpstrips and u may have to get the area sprayed to match up.

Those things are great!

When I backed into that Vectra (so new it was unregistered) they made a really deep scratch in it costing ?200.

No damage to my car though! Cars arn't what they used to be.

if its anything like mine was they are a bitch! best thing is heat gun, not too close to wreck your paint but just enough to warm up the strips and they come off lovely, then again if your unlucky like me you'll have half the bloody glue still on the car, and that takes more heat, alot of t cut and a very nice girlfriend to help you! which i didn't have. ( a nice one that is!)

oops, kinda already done the deed, and got tons of glue left over, back arch had tiny bit of paint which came off as well, shite!

So 2morrow out comes the sandpaper, filler, paint and a new partial paintjob! nevermind, will be worth it in the end.......

nevermind it's started so may as well finish, taken 2 days but all is smooth, and ready to paint.. then gotta consider whether its worth the bother doing the other side! lol :?

theres two sides to every coin

yes i would rip apart a nova, do it completely custom - not even off the shelf jobs,

and again, yes i am keeping my car modded to a degree that it is still an SR, but obviously different.

wanna keep my car at a point where its sublte enough to fit in, but add an agressive look :)

so!

dont be asking santa for superglue this chrsitmas! get him to order you a debadged smoothed tailgate  ian wont like that now will he!!!

Yes Carlton has got the idea. It cost me ?40 for the one on the door and ?12 for the one on the front wing. So including the back ones it will be ?160?

I go back to what a mechanic friend of mine has said, "Theres more skill in changing a set of spark plugs, than in sticking on a spoiler." Theres more performance too!

so u reckon ive recked another standard example of the nova then ian?

http://www.novaload.net/features/viewfeature.php?ref=249

By the way the reason i got rid of the side strips, vynal etc. is because the stuff just harbours rust as soon as water get slightly underneath it.

I do agree that standard sr's look good but i think they only look right as mk1's with the orignial bumpers lights etc. The vynal etc just doesnt suit the mk2 IMO

lol i didnt take offecnce, was just asking your opinion. Personally when i had mine re-sprayed i had bought all of the vynal etc. to restore it back to original spec, but after seing wot lurks behind this stick on stuff i decided it was better to leave it off (got loadsa vocy mk2 vynal gathering dust). Also when i had taken it off i thought it looked a lot better.
