may be a real stupid question, but for my restoration i was wondering if its in anyway possible to get a brand new crate c16se engine?

nah i think not. You could possibly get a new bottom end as i think its the same as a C16XE/X16XE and they should still be available from somewhere brand new, crate jobbie.. Should be able to get a new F13cr too i think..
So youde be a head and inlet short of a new engine..
Then again i think there are headgasket differences between 8v and 16v bottom ends.. not sure.

Not going to be efficient spending tho i have to admit. Recondition one thoroughly maybe through a rally specialist - still popular in rallying, just about..
tis all about the 16v now u see..

i did want to go 16v, but i want to keep it a fully standard gsi, nut n bolt resto

i like that better mate, must admit.. on a gsi.. u stick to good ol' 8v
I spent too much many moons ago reconditioning my old GSi 8v; looked ok tho (wasnt meant to be o.e looking)

As daft as it may sound, have you actually tried Vauxhall? Or try Ivor Searls.
Vauxhall with probably do an exchange engine, not gonna be cheap. It wont be brand new but good as
