I hav been driving a few months, and i was wondering about something. I have a 1989 1.2 Nova, its the SOHC engine, single carb. I was wondering.... can i change it toa twin carb????? If so, where and how much, and what sort of power gain? Thanx

you can change it to a twin weber DCOE 40 setup, but most people wouldnt think of doing that unless they have either a highly modded 1.3 engine, or 1.4 or bigger..........

you can see "upto 30% gains" apparently.

parts for 1.2 are more rarer so expect to be waiting a while for the right stuff to come along, or pay top whack for something off the shelf brand new

TBO mate i would say go for a weber 32/34 carb, which has two inlets, but still a shared manifold similar to what you have now - they give a lot better response and feel smoother, and are a BIG improvement over any standard carb.

id go that route personally.

for the postage you'd have to pay for buying a carb over the net, on eBay for example, you'd be better off getting one from a scrap yard. and if its second hand on the net, you cant really check if its in good condition.

plus, online nova part sellers know how much some people will pay for nova stuff to modify their car, and they go for stupid prices. in the eyes of most scrap yard merchants, a carb's a carb and you'll get a fair price.

just remember, if you have a K&N bolt on, it may not stretch over the 32/34. someone else may be able to confirm that. the K&N part number for the single choke carb is 56-9152, but for a 32/34 twin choke it's 56-9159. as far as i'm aware the hole in the back is smaller on the 9152, but if any of your mates are still in school doin technology, get them to cut it to size on a machine. i've only seen my 9159 so i'm not completely sure.

Twin choke uses another auto choke vacuum style thing to open the 2nd choke up. On your 1.2 you have single choke, its manuel u have to pull it out urself on a cold morining etc.

32/34 is manuel choke as well if you go for that option, which is a good idea if u can get one for the right ?s. I got a modified manifold mint weber carb and k&n the right size for ?75 :D

As for size on the k&n i think they both fit over the carb so to speak but due to the height of the standard 1.2 k&n and the weber sitting higher up, it can easily put a dent in ur bonnet, just ask mr spanishfly ;)

i'm trying to reply to as many messages as poss, as you can see, i have nothing else to do. anyway... all i can say on this one is that manual choke is better than those supposed 'auto chokes' on the pierburgs (laters sr's) they never bloody work! the water feed that controls the choke snapped on mine, i bypassed it and got the car to idle fine, even when it was cold. if you don't go for engine swap or GSI!! (not gte!), then go for weber 32/34 if you can find one cheap, not worth buying new. i saw 1.3 sr running 90bhp just with one of these(once set up on rolling road of course) cant complain at that.

You mean Auto XS in Milton Keynes? No they don't sell Audio equipment, but a couple of doors down theres a shop called "Premier Car Systems" they will sort you out with most types of Stereo. I've had two Stereos and alarm fitted by them and I can't fault them, there a really good place.

AutoXs will be able to supply you with wheels, susspension, air filters, etc. Ask to speak to Mike, he'll help you out.
