Wyedean rally '09

As many of the older members know/remember every february the first round of the BTRDA rally championship kicks off in the Forest of Dean where i live, and generally a few lads come down for a night of banter and a day out on stage spectating with a rally report that evening.

Alas what with the weather etc this year i went out on a solo mission, we had a fair bit of snow on thurs and then again on fri which set a nice scene for the championship to kick off with. I say nice as sat in a nice warm rally car it was probably great, but it was bloody cold from the side lines point of view lol

There's not alot that can be said really as the pictures do the talking, snow filled events are becoming a rarity in general so its almost a privilege to be able to attend one in my own backyard as such. Also i'm not the greatest photo taker as i prefer to go and watch not spend half the day viewing it through a lens :thumb:

Good stuff Dan. Your piccys are better than mine. I didn't venture out of the Monty because I had to man the radio, that also explains my rubbish piccys and general lack of them. I will resize them and add them in to this thread a bit later though. I also got a small video clip of Andy Burtons 306. Although again it's not as good as it could have been because I was in the Monty.

I was at J7 in SS3. Left at 6am this morning to get in to the forest! I'm knackered!

I was thinking of going up to watch this but the weather put pay to that.
Its good fun; I go and watch The Tempest South of England Rally every year in November cos its right on the doorstep too.

hey dan i also from glos and was out there today did maylescote and serridge stage was goin to be marshalling at chepstow park but everyone else pulled out what stage were you on also that first nova went really well for a 1400 the blue one think it were car 203. burton showed them all as usual.

The car you are reffering to is the julian wilkes nova, running big power courtesey of mr Bowyer or maybe even a JRE engine now (was bowyer a couple of years back when i was crewing on the same events)

As for stages i generally only do one of the serridge stages and the speechhouse stage. the reason for this is you can see the whole field go through, then just wander across the road and watch the whole field go through in the afternoon with little down time inbetween :thumb:

I see julian wilkes came a very creditable 30th in his Nova VXR190 which i think gives a clue as to its origins - a 1.4 running I think in the 1.4C class?

1.4S (according to the notes I was given) it was flying! A great car. There was also an Escort that sounded awesome in the 1.4 class. Sounded very much like like a tuned YB lump. i.e. not at all like a little 1.4

dar the escort you were referring to had a 1.3 rotary engine. they used to class rotary engines as double the capacity makin his a 2.6 but he found a loop hole in the regs meaning it is now msa logbooked as a 1.3 it revs really well

can't believe missed it, gutted! Julians car is truly stunning, just had new engine built this year, which as said is putting out around 188 i was told. Always enjoyable to see burtons car! Be strange when the ban comes in and its no longer out on the stages!

That evo came past was nice enough, not like a complete loon.
I had to chuckle at one of the 1400cc drivers who retired, not for mechanical reasons but because he was 'fed up of getting stuck!'.

Also there was a hill on stage 2 (I think) that had a queue of about 10 cars that needed pushing up the hill by the spectators. The radio crew said they would get them up and away as fast as possible but the specatators were looking tired! Poor buggers but at least it kept them warm :D
