My GSI is fitted with twin carbs and i am looking into getting a bonnet with a bonnet scoop fitted to help get more air to the carbs.

If do, how much difference will it make?

and will there be problems from water getting to the carbs when the car is standing or going along?

well, with a decent filter & airbox ie the nova sport type, the air will route from the rh inner arch. any scoop on the top of the bonnet will only suck water in if you go fast thru a flood

If a bonnet scoop on TOP of the bonnet is sucking water in through a flood, I think you're in trouble for other reasons, i.e. you're trying to drive across a lake lol

I have a vent on my bonnet, right over the turbo and next to the filter, and have no problems with water ingress.

i wouldnt to be honest i had one on my nova (subaru vent) and the spray from the car in front made the car draw in a lot of water and misfire badly. lucky not to bend a valve!! its not really worth it either unless your engine is highly modifed and needs to draw in a lot of air. or unless you just want to look cool with it lol

if the scoop faced backwards, it would draw dry air in.

good point but it would have a resistance to get over the scoop before drawing in to the inlet so would not be up to much use at end of day only cars that are fairly tuned should have one for an perpose(sp) not for show!:thumb:

AFAIK Vaux have never designed a scoop either, maybe a vent?

put some GTE vent on backwards..so they draw air in and with the plastic they have it would push it at a 90 degree angle towards the carbs

Have you fitted one yet? I can't see any differnt between that and a scoop as far as water goes

he was offered that bonnet for a good price in red which is the same colour as his car... Thats why that was the vent in question.

I'm going to vent a bonnet once i fit my bike carbs, but not sure which vent yet :)

A scoop facing backwards would draw warm air out. You're thinking of a vent facing backwards, and even then it would depend where on the bonnet it was.

AFAIK Vaux have never designed a scoop either, maybe a vent?
Monterey? Although I suppose that wasn't designed by Vauxhall - mind you, they haven't designed any cars for about 35 years
