View Full Version : Nova TD Not Starting?

As some of you will know we have a Nova TD for the Track/Autotesting

Since we've had it, we've put several charged batterys in it and as soon as we try to turn it over theres nothing from it except from a ticking noise which I thought was the starter but not 100% sure

All the lights disappear on the dash, interior etc

But when you put jump-leads on it from another car it will fire up no problem

So that makes me think it's not the starter...?

Anyone any other ideas as to what it could be ?

Help much appreciated, Vaughan :thumb:

Nope mate, couldn't even tell you where the starter is on that engine lol

It's a mass of hoses and wiring

Are you putting diesel batteries on it?
Or petrol ones?

DERV batteries are usually huge bastids, as it takes some effort to turn over a diesel engine compared to a petrol one.

read: he has tried different CHARGED batteries and it still wont start. only starts with a jump.

Hmm the one we took out was quite big but the rest were smaller

Maybe that could be the problem then - A wrong battery...?

I thought a charged battery would have at least given it a wee boost...

Petrol nova batterys are 063 and the derv's are 065.

were the battery terminals clean and the clamps tight and making a good connection. when you jump it do you put the leads on both battery terminals or the earth on the engine.

Also check the gearbox earth strap/starter motor earth cable.

TBH a petrol batt would probably start it, if it was fully charged

using your jump lead use the earth on to the batterie and the other end on the engine dont use the live ones. if it starts its a bad earth mate.

i would say its a cross between a duff starter and not enough cranking amps :)

I'll give it a wee look over tomorrow :)

Cheers for your help

tbh, i would say the senolide on the starter thats fudged, the extra batter power if forcing it across

I had this problem on sat and it was the battery in the end, starter wasnt that great either but the root of the problem was the battery.
