So I got this out of the weeds and put it on the front of my 'mog

and went and did a bit of this

What's a mog?

A mercedes unimog 4x4 vehicle that is a cross between a lorry & a tractor, and quite good fun.

they used to be used on the dakar rally as parts vehicles, then they sort of opened a separate class for them.....

Merc truck!??

Pah!

Us Unmiog purists dont EVER refer to our 'mogs as mere "merc trucks":p

These bits of kits are part tractor, part 4*4 truck. They've got independant coil spring and shocker suspension alround, switchable 4 or 2 wheel drive including diff lock, 16 forward gears (more if it has crawler or super reduction crawler gears) and 16 reverse gears. They've got front and rear PTO's (power take off) rear and front linkages, 3 way tipper on the back or a load carrying base for a wide variety of things like HIABs, crop sprayers, tankers etc etc and loads of other features. They've got air operated discs brakes alround and depending on what tyres are on they have can do about 50 mph
They are typically used for agriculture, forestry and municipal applications as well as a host of specialist bespoke situations since they are extremely adaptable.

That'll teach you for asking questionslol

I had a happy time razzing round the local roads clearing snow and slush whilst scaring the **** out of on coming motorists:D

they are brilliantly engineered, but I worked for a unimog dealer for 5 years & the uk users (too fast up the road, too much weight on etc) caused lots of axle and gearbox trouble.......

jcb owned one & rolled it on their private test track (place where mr jcb drove his classic racing cars) they also took the gearbox apart & we had to put it back together... no long afterwards, they launched the fastrac

They are very top heavy- someone in the REME's told me that squaddies used to keep rolling them.
The Fastracs are better as tractors - they have proper load sensing on the rear linkage meaning you can plough better etc

First job will be to flatten the VX in an orgasmic spectacle of splintering fiberglass and squashed aluminium :)

Should have been down here on Tuesday mate, 4-5 inches of the stuff :D

Although now we have all but a thin covering, whilst everything around us in all directions has the 4-5"!

Nice plough! Awesome vehicles the old Unimogs. There's a guy around here has one for his tree surgeon business. Goes deep into the darkest forests and reappears every time lol Complete with it's wood chipper/compactor thing towed behind :thumb:

I dislike the Brabus version though. Why? :wtf:
