Hi all,
I currently have purchased a 1.3 SR rolling shell rally car and I am looking to compete in a 1000cc rally class. They allow you to put smaller engines in to higher spec cars. So i am looking to put a Corsa 1.0 ECOTEC engine and box in to the nova, how hard is this? I know i will need the loom and ecu, but what about the rest eg , cat convertor etc? will the engine need extra engine mounts welding in or does it use the same as the old one?
Any help would be great!!
Cheers
Rick ;)

the old ohv 1.0 engine would be an easy fit, but the 12v 3 pot will be harder even though the gearbox end mounts are the same. the front engine mount would need modifying. the wiring would be fairly complex as there is probably the whole key immobiliser thing which is an integral part of the efi loom.

the power in std form would be fairly rubbish, for the 3pot, and the old engine would probably be quicker.

as for tuning, the 3 pot doesn't really have much going for it, but the old engine would respond to head work & a cam regrind. + a skim to raise compression.

Thanks for the reply, by old engine do you mean a corsa 1.0 L non ecotech?

No he means the old OHV 1.0 Nova engine.

but surely the uber weight of the 1.0 8v lump would sack off any "power" gain over the ecotec item..

Sloth
05-02-09, 05:17 PM
a very good point, the ohv weighs the same as an xe.... iirc. id go for the 1.0 3cyl.

Stuart

can you not destroke a 1.2/1.4 16v ?

Rick C
05-02-09, 06:02 PM
Thanks very much for the replys.
The cars engine needs to be stock for the class I will be entering but i can change the brakes and suspension etc. I have gte brakes and uprated suspension and the car is fully seam welded. The other cars are mainly micras (nice!) 1.0l 54 bhp
The way I am currently looking at it is

Nova 1.0 L 45 bhp
Corsa 1.0 12v 54bhp

Plus the nova is lighter than a corsa.

What you think?

rednova
05-02-09, 06:04 PM
has it got to be the same brand engine? if not try charade gtti engine? how about bike engines? they're under 1000cc

Rick C

Yes i am afrid so corsa is as much as i can budge

Rick C
05-02-09, 08:19 PM
lol, I can't mod the engine it as to be either a nova 1.0 or corsa 1.0?

What do you recon?

Stuart
05-02-09, 09:32 PM
put the corsa engine into the nova.

Rick C
05-02-09, 09:37 PM
I was thinking that, more power hey! I would have to get the full loom & ecu also, just the bit about the drivers key, can you get round it?

Mike
05-02-09, 09:42 PM
Ive got a 12volt Corsa, TBH, they never gonna set the world on fire with there lack of speed, but nippy little engines TBH.

The T/B is uber teeny tiny and pathetic mind lol

eh?
Should be a bit quicker for the nova then as mine is quite light and stripped out! need to beat the 1.0 L micras!! lol

i know people that take the corsa key and strap it under the dash then the chip is always there then you just wire the ecu and loom in as you do any other converstion. i also seen people strip the key and put the chip in a alarm fob then it is always on you key

Why would you need do that with the 12volt engine? The key is a non transponder unit?!

So just to check I would need to get a 1.0 L ecotech engine and the wiring loom and ecu. Not the key?

Sloth
07-02-09, 06:10 PM
you need the key and transducer and its wires.

Mike
08-02-09, 10:24 AM

No you dont. There not a transducer key chap. Theres no immobiliser on the 1.0's.

yes there is on the corsa, chip in key with reciever around ignition barrel
you need engine, ecu, loom, andthe loom for the immobiliser and the key or just the chip from the key. the key is coded to the engine ecu.the car wont start until the code is recieved from the key and recognised by the engine ecu

No there is not.

Mine in all its life has never ever had a chipped key nor immobiliser. Neither did Ste's IIRC.

No immobiliser as nobody would want to nick one? lol

Hmm, I'd put my money on the Nova being lighter if you went nuts stripping it out - the Micra is just shy of a ton, so a std poverty spec nova has 150kg advantage already. The 12v engine can't be THAT heavy... can it?

Well the Nova has been stripped out it does not even has a dash! The heater has been took out too! I recon its pretty light! be good to beat the micras lol! Its an ex-rally car the guy stripped it and put all the stuff in another nova as it already had a rear disk conversion.

About the Key guys, am going to get a full corsa, I have found a cat c T reg 1.0 12v ecotech with 70k on it and the engine is mint, the guy wants £260 for it.

Just need to find / borrow an engine hoist now!

Pretty certain i've seen Dblias or Mantzel inlets for the 12volt 1.0s claiming a 20ish bhp increase

Leeboo
10-02-09, 01:59 AM
Yeah you can get a Dbilas inlet for the 1.0s claims something like 18 bhp increase, but its around 1k  .

Only reason I remember that is I thought "imagine a 1.0 Corsa with 75 bhp"!!??!!!!! :wtf:

im not even going to bother trying to argue about it, spent 10 years working on the cars and every single corsa from 97 on had an immobiliser in the key, that includes 1.0 12v:thumb:

My mates V reg 1.0 12v corsa has a chip in the key, only reason i know is i cut up his key blade to put it in a flip key and had to take the chip out and stick it in the flip key.
