I bought baxters old gte front bumper a few weeks ago. it is painted in three bits, top-black, middle-blue, bottom-black

now I plan to make it: top-grey, middle-red, bottom black

this bit is easy cos there are grooves that I can mask to..

BUT the rear gte bumper has no extra groove between the top & middle bits... just the normal bumper ones:(

has anyone considered or actually carved out an extra groove to make matching up possible??

I am thinking of making a plyboard jig & running my router round it..

i have mk1 gte rear bumper in my mates shed! imo i would remove the lower black part of the rear bumper?, then colour code the top part as you say!! top grey bottom red

I already have the bumper, but I want to paint the lower (add on) bit black, the (non grooved) middle bit red & the top (grooved) grey.
BUT there isn't a demarcation line on the rear bumper like there is on the front......

oh right, i know what your saying, you want a another line under the angle of the bumper to paint to! i cant see any reason why you couldn't do so! just dont cut through it :)

bloody el, gettin your router out on it mowgli, u brave... i give u that.
hows about just masking it the very best u can, and stepping back and taking a long hard look at the level to see if its good enough.

yeah, but masking along a bumper will always give a crap joint line that will cause the paint to flake off the first sign of a car wash..

I am only planning to show it the router, & scratch a line into it..

anyway, I have a spare bumper that is only fit for the skip, so I've got nowt to lose..

yeh true that, unless you put 10 tonnes of laquer on it, which is not really ideal.
give it a go and show us some pics, proper custom stuff this.

I reckon the rear would look better with the lower splitter black and rest red

Is that rear yeah?
Mask to the bottom lip, so the tape is at the bottom of the L shape in the lower grove, then lacquar everything in, makes it tidy and will match the front better.

if your on about the black the front is, i think it was plastikote satin black when i painted it. dont know if baxter re did the black or not, if theres still taxi yellow primer then its my (poor) handiwork for the top...
