Right, Most of you have seen the green xe has been broken to raise a few £££, but you didn't think i'd be with out some other sort of project did youlol.
The plans for this are simple, budget, gordon brown beating, cheap to insure, daily drive to have some fun with! Possibly kinda euro ratty, with a, ahem, small block engine! And to hopefully make the national day!
Bought it off just vaux trev, (top fella!) a couple of weeks back as a none runner, banged a set of plugs in and away we go! It's already lowered -60mm on spax springs, but i want to go lower. Its lost the horrendous boot spolier and rear lights already!
I have a low mileage e16se and box in the garage, may bung that in too,
More updates soon........... possibly

First job, just to get it to mot standard.

(apologies for poor mobile pics!!)

Never been a fan of the sr spolier tbh, Imo they only suit the sr only. Clear rears are deffo going as one of them is broken anyway. The manta alloys are no longer on the car either.
So anyone got any euro/rat ideas or pics for me? Nothing too wild thoughlol

Yea, theres just something about it that looks so fcuking ace for some odd reason!!

A 1600 will go down a treat in there though, hide a nice little suprise for many a younger chav driver lol

John
05-02-09, 07:26 PM
Yeah, may try and tune it up a bit too, the car already has a 4 branch, and complete sportex system, so i may slip a cam in, if i can find one cheap enough. What's the most cam duration wise i can go to, on the e16se?

Mike
05-02-09, 07:44 PM
Highest duration would be a 300+ but for an everyday car thats a bad idea lol

Personally id go for the norm of a 275 deg chap.

I also like the spoiler not to keen on the clear rears, i will admit i liked them back in the day

John
07-02-09, 05:33 PM
Done some more mincing today, ripped out the late 80's "sparkrite" alarm system, replaced the clear rears with some oe spec, euro rears, removed the front sr grille and bumper, sourced the correct grille for the spec, and tried to replace the steering wheel with a calibra one, but the column is bent, so i'll have to replace it.
Todays costs,
Rear clusters, £0 (been in my shed for yonks)
Front grille £0 (been in my shed for yonks)
Calibra steering wheel £0 (removed from my old corsavan)

Have found a large hole in the front leading edge of the n/s wing, so i'll have to do something about that before mot time. Anyone got a wing with a good lower frontal piece they wanna donate me? lol. Lets hope i have a good steering column in my stockpile of parts too lol.

John
07-02-09, 05:38 PM
Might go for a bit of steath ice too, by mounting the head unit in the glovebox, and a changer under the passenger seat. Also have some old, old jvc 6x9's with one grille missing, suitably ratty me-thinks!
I'm also thinking of some sort of comedy bonnet, will post with my idea in another section.

John
08-02-09, 08:13 PM
Also fitted the back box off the green xe, but it doesn't fit that well cos custom made it for the xe. Might take it off again, and re-fit the sportex back box. Hmm might make a side exit if i have time one day!

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l240/tooleater16v/green%20nova%20pics/011-1.jpg

Found said front grille, gonna smooth off the vauxhall badge and find something sticker wise to cover it with, just need to get my bumper now (when it stops fecking snowing!!) Can't decide whether or not to remove the clear front indiactor lenses?

the map sensor will restrict you to a mild cam too

So can it be chipped successfully or not ad? ie to gain bhp, How far can i go with the cam? 275deg?

Adam
26-02-09, 09:48 PM
Can be yeah, but not worth what places like Superchips cost.

A "fast road" cam is about your limit really, 270-275deg

tempted.. I'll get the numbers off it and pm you..

I can't believe this, but I actually hate changing gear. I had a 4 speed 1.2, 1.4'ed it and enjoyed the lack of gear changing. but the f13cr is like being in a hollywood car chase, with a gearchange every 2 seconds.

Also managed to have a bit of a mince too, have fitted the 236mm vented discs and calipers from the astra, re-fitted and adjusted the back box, Fitted one of the side repeaters, just the other one to do now, probably tommorow. Pics when i cba!

Right not much of an update really, apart from to say from i WON'T be fitting a 1.6. I simply can't get a decent insurance quote! Companies want to insure it as a gte (what engines came from) and have found out they're group 14! Just going to tick with the 1.2 for now, possibly fit an f13, and a twin choke weber, just to liven it up a abit. May build a 1.4 out of the 1.2st, and 1.3 bottom end bits.

Mazz

Yeah they class it technically as the good ole gsi engine though, Which unfortunately keep it high insurance wise.

I thought GTE's were group 11? Still expensive though I spose. I think corsa sports are group 10.

I'll be watching this to see what you do with your 1200, I've just fitted a 12nv to my Nova with just a 4 branch and k&n. I had fitted a 1.3 inlet and twin choke carb but it wouldnt run right, must have needed the cam too.

looking good john, as u said on page 4 about the indicators, id say go original amber, looks much better and will keep it sleeper, be awsome with some 14 inch cav steelies over 2 litre brakes for ultimate sleeper. keep it up :thumb:

was told by a representative at sky they were group 14? Anway......

If i keep it as a 1.2, i'll use 1.3 rods and crank to make a 1.4, use a 1.3 inlet and a weber 34/32, four branch, and cam, all mated to an f13.

Lol, i think i'm gonna keep the C16SE, and the crf13, and save them for a rainy day. I've just bought some webers, kent cam and an ignition set up, just need an inlet manifold, lets see what happens!

Smallest of small updates.

bought a complete magnex system for it today, so the sportex system can now go. practically brand new for peanuts too!

Also been buying a few bits, we'll see if they ever make it on the car though. may update later.

Also had some better insurance quotes, £189 tpft, and £219 fully comp! Woop! just gotta get it tested and I'll be on the road!

John

Hmmmm, much better!

Although the front pipe o ring disintegrated on removal! Nows sounds worse than before! Polished the tailpipe up, ala benn, but got scared so stopped. lol.

Also sticks put way too far for my liking, so it may have to get shortened.

John
18-04-09, 10:13 AM
Ok so, new front pipe o ring fitted, centre section rubbers and modified the tailpipe so it doesn't stick out too much (see above pic!) n/s/f wing has been patched at the bottom, with a good piece from a donor wing (thanks jayme xe!). Oil has been changed, and i'm off to was it off in a bit too!
M.o.t booked for wednesday, so hopefully on the first of may we will be on the road! Woo-hooo!
I'm already wondering how long it'll be before i'm bored of the standard 1.2 though lol. No pics, cos it's still exactly the same as the last time you saw it lol.
I have to say though that this is fully inspiring me though! Anyone wanna shop the boot off for me??

Ok, so........
Today we officially have 12months mot woohoo!!:D (ok it's got some advisories but hey!)
Drove it on the road for the first time today, the front tyres badly need balancing, the tracking is way out, it desperately needs another gear and the ride is harsh!, but it bought a good old nova shaped smile to my face. :D
The first of next month will see it on the road! already sorted the insurance, so just got to tax it now, and sort out all those niggles.:thumb:

Southie
22-04-09, 08:32 PM
Nice one on the mot pass. Relief that they passed it 1st time?

The nova smile the one that just curls the corner of your mouth a little and the happy I'm driving a nova once again feeling ahhhhhh :D

John
22-04-09, 08:37 PM
Yeah kinda relieived, i'd checked it over before it went though (and it went to the vw dealership where i work so that helped too Lol) and kinda knew what it'd get advisories on anyway.

1, coolant leak,
2, n/s front flexi hose just starting to crack,
3, o/s front flexi hose just strating to crack,
4, exhaust just catching on fuel tank,
5, n/s rear wheel bearing has slight play,
6, o/s rear wheel bearing has slight play.

Will fit a full set of braided lines i have, and probably replace the rear bearings when i have time too.

John
22-04-09, 08:42 PM

my mate had a set of ats alloys in his shed.... I might be ringing him.

Do it! The ats manta rims are mega light, compared to the manta gte that are on now which weigh a fooking ton each.
The stock rod racers love them due to their lightweight and good offset (30 iirc)

Minor update!

Fitted new cambelt and water pump, and re-newed the coolant today, along with this full length gsi aluminium rad from my old xe, oh and the correct rad fan too.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l240/tooleater16v/5%20door%20nova/003.jpg

Also fitted my old xe tca stuff too. strengthened lower arms, with nylon bushes, diesel 22mm tie bars, and powerflex tca bushes. (to harness the 1.2 power!lol )

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l240/tooleater16v/5%20door%20nova/001.jpg

And finally fitted the o/s engine mount i'd made somewhile back. It uses 2k glass bonding, and it sets alomost urethane. The one on was fooked, and knocked when pulling off!

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l240/tooleater16v/5%20door%20nova/002.jpg

Got the front wheels off too, so i can get them balanced on monday. Might be a bit nicer to drive now!

See you all next weekend at the nats! (don't worry i'll park miles awaylol )

John
18-05-09, 09:22 PM
Well it made it to the national and back! The speedo horrendously overreads, was doing 100 on the clocks, 81 on the gps lol. The wheels and tyres may have to go, the tyre sidewalls have no give, and they're ruining what is already a bumpy ride! Plus the exhaust is catching badly going in and out of the drive!
Got the 15" speedlines off will, may use them, or i've just bagged some "other" 14" alloys off the bay for £6! Will keep you guessing as to what they are, they're erm, well different!
It desperately needs a 5 speed box, it guzzles fuel when flat out in 4th! I have a good f13, may swap the f/d, then prepare for a 1.3, with an ast1 and a 34/32 weber over winter.
The wheel wobble hasn't been cured by the tyres being balanced, so need to trial some driveshafts now.

AlexW

Cars having a bit of a wobbler today, continually cutting out, and generally running rough. Removed coil and king lead to find that the king lead had corroded itself to the dizzy cap. Swapped for a good set up i had, seems to have cured it for now. Also signs of rusty water starting to blow out of the header tank, not looking very promising. Might build up a 1.3 with an f13 and bang that in, save spending on the 1.2!

Thanks benn, it staying as low as it is for now, due to it being a daily drive, it's ripping big bits out of the top of my drive with the exhaust as it is! I've got some 14's for it too, just to use as better daily rims. the 175/50/13's are a bit harsh for everyday use! (although euro steels are massivly tempting!):thumb:

Right, no update for ages (been away, and i'm also lazy) So here goes!

Fitted the sr clocks, along with the oil pressure sender so all the dials work.

Thought i'd best tidy it up too. lol

Started off like this, bit shabby, remember tis still a daily though.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l240/tooleater16v/001-6.jpg

Painted all of the front valance, and the n/s mirror cap. Also have a 1/4 trim to go round the window too, so that got painted, just need to remove the window to fit the fecking thing!
Front and rear bumpers got refurbed, along with the grille, which now has a nice shiney black griffin. wasn't too sure at first, bu ithink it looks ok. Got some new clear fronts to go in too. Grab handle and lower valance trims all got a coat of bumper paint too.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l240/tooleater16v/003-12.jpg

Tailpipe got a clean too!

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l240/tooleater16v/004-8.jpg

Also got some new wheels too  . They've had a refurb too in gloss white, one is odd atm, i'll give whoever notices the difference a smartie! They look fecking hooooj compared to the 175/50/13's! Wasn't sure about them being white, but i'm sure as and when the car is clean they'll be fine.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l240/tooleater16v/005-10.jpg

Lol NO! Tis probably my fave bit from a mk2. Not too sure cos i've painted it in a mk1 stylee though!

I tried to get some u-pol stuff, but went to B&S paints in burslem and they gave me this stuff instead. was £7.50 a tin, and it just used 1 tin for the bumpers.

Well kinda small update, front suspension has been making a racket for a bit, checked the lower arm bushes and they were starting to knock (tas nylon ones, been on most cars i've owned over 10 years so they've done well!) So i fitted some yellows from raldes, bargain price too! Hopefully picking some konis up off Ad too.

1.3sb, quick gasket freshen up then will get kent cam and weber carb. Nothing too serious as it's my daily.

Rfx's have now been taken off, to be replaced with baxters/spuds old pentalines, They're fine for winter. Got some speedlines to refurb then they'll go on in spring with some nice new toyos.
