Mk2 astras had the 20XE engine, MK3 astras had the C20XE engine until the very late ones which came with the Ecotech to meet with the emision regulations introduced at the time.
for tj and anyone else...
mk2 astra gte- 87 to 91 20xe and c20xe and c20xej
mk3 astra gsi- 91 to 94 c20xe and c18xe. 97 ltd edition x20xev (500 made iirc)
Don't XE's have the date stamped inside the cam housing? Open the oil filler cap and have a look inside, mine's got a year stamp in there.
thought that was small block 8v's? i think tj meant what cars have em as std, not how to date em.
edit: mines dated 10/87. that right??? i know its early, but thats gotta be one of the first?
Yeah, I was just curious. Think mine's 87 or 88 as well.
i was told by a vaux parts guy it was opne of the first 500, but never believed him. i bet its seen some things.....

What?
wrong thread opp's
nope,
20xe is non cat early astra lump
c20xe is later catted lump, looms different aswell
c20xej has slightly higher output and a different ecu map, but is extremely rare.

So basically a catted C20XE and a non catted C20XE and what IMO could be pub BS lol
err, yeah. having seen 3 xej's its not pub bs. i suggest you read the engine codes info thread mate.

Having read the thread, J means throttled output. As in restricted?? lol And how do you know the are XEJ's just by looking at them??
engine code and ecu code, it means throttled as in throttle setups etc. iirc the t/b is biggger slightly. they do have a higher output. ive seen em run on the rollers. some one else may be able to add to this. btw you tell by the code stamped on the block.
Sloth is right i have heard this also, iirc the xej is 152bhp??
i got told 156 instead of 152 but hey whats 4 bhp between friends??? haha
Sloth is right i have heard this also, iirc the xej is 152bhp??
Wow andy in "backing sloth up" shocker haha, sloth seriously dude how the funk do you know of all of this shoite really?
Btw err, ive kinda heard references to an "xej" before but thought it was a typo lol
i read stuff spud, i have more haynes than porn mags... p.s chat?
The 156hp just comes from having no cat fitted. Nothing special
6 bhp from a de cat? sorry i cant see it matey!
6bhp from a decat would be about right on a N/A engine.
