Mk2 astras had the 20XE engine, MK3 astras had the C20XE engine until the very late ones which came with the Ecotech to meet with the emision regulations introduced at the time.

Don't XE's have the date stamped inside the cam housing? Open the oil filler cap and have a look inside, mine's got a year stamp in there.

thought that was small block 8v's? i think tj meant what cars have em as std, not how to date em.

edit: mines dated 10/87. that right??? i know its early, but thats gotta be one of the first?

Sloth

nope,

20xe is non cat early astra lump
c20xe is later catted lump, looms different aswell
c20xej has slightly higher output and a different ecu map, but is extremely rare.

So basically a catted C20XE and a non catted C20XE and what IMO could be pub BS lol

Sloth
04-02-09, 06:22 PM
err, yeah. having seen 3 xej's its not pub bs. i suggest you read the engine codes info thread mate.

Pistol Pete

Having read the thread, J means throttled output. As in restricted?? lol And how do you know the are XEJ's just by looking at them??

Sloth
04-02-09, 06:37 PM
engine code and ecu code, it means throttled as in throttle setups etc. iirc the t/b is biggger slightly. they do have a higher output. ive seen em run on the rollers. some one else may be able to add to this. btw you tell by the code stamped on the block.

The 156hp just comes from having no cat fitted. Nothing special

6bhp from a decat would be about right on a N/A engine.
